Of course we want our wedding day to be just perfect. But sadly sometime life does not have the same intentions we do and a loved family member has been taken away from us far too soon for our liking.
There are many different ways to incorporate a memorial with your wedding day. You can go very simply or you can go with a grander showing. It really depends on the bride and groom, how close the family member was to the both of you and how elaborate your wedding is going to be.
You can also different multiple memorials during your day. There is a beautiful variety of charms, pendants & brooch ideas that can be put on the wedding bouquet. This way whenever you hold your flowers they are right with you. If it is the grooms side he can have this mixed in with his boutonniere. Both of these options give you the chance to have your loved one walk down the aisle with you.
If you want to include them during the ceremony you can have a picture (I would not recommend bigger than an 8x10) in a beautiful frame sitting on the alter. This can be placed by a unity candle and or a sand ceremony.
If you want to include them during the reception again you have many different options. You can do a framed photo with a candle for a subtle memorial. You can put a few of their favorite things with it (ex favorite flower, trinket, or just something that reminds you of them.
The most memorable memorial I have seen was a groom whose father had passed away 2 months before the wedding. He and his father were best friends and he was obviously devastated that he was not there. The couple decided to do several things so that he was included in their special day. First the groom had his picture in a very tiny frame and attached to his boutonniere. Next his father actually had a favorite flower (a blue orchid). They had their centerpieces all white with the blue orchids (which is blue and purple) accenting the centerpieces. They carried it through to their theme as well. They had purple sashes on the chairs with blue uplighting. The groom also went a step further. His father had a favorite trench coat (that he wore for over 20 years) and a favorite hat. He wore the hat for his wedding ceremony. During his first dance he wore both the coat and hat. He kept his father's seat right next to his mother. When he was not wearing the coat and hat it was placed at his father's seat & was left there for the reception. Everyone was able to truly appreciate how much he was adored by his son and daughter in law.
There is really no right or wrong way to do a tribute. It is up to the individual as to how much they would like to do. These are just some ideas that we have done to incorporate a loved one who is missed so much on such a special day!
