Feeling a little lost....: We just found out we may not have a Best Man

Jim's best friend from way back is trying to rejoin the military as an officer. He's already applied. The problem is that this may mean he won't make it to our wedding.

We only had One Best Man and One Groomsman.

So now Im done to 1 Guy and 3 girls. The groomsman was/is his brother and can easily fit in as best man, but we are still down 2. I didnt mind being down 1 guy but 2 makes it tough.

*sigh*

Maybe I can have my twin brothers be groomsmen. I think they'll be like 14.. is that too young?

Oh Xel...I'm sorry...I think it would be a wonderful idea to ask your brothers to be groomsmen. 14 is not too young...they will probably be sooooo excited you ask.

Re: Feeling a little lost....: We just found out we may not have a Best Man

Our orginal best man couldn't get leave so we dh's oldest brother stepped in.

(we were afraid of picking him because dh has a bunch of brothers that are all the same age)

Which OCS? OTS? is he going too.
Why can't he make it, when does his training start? Tons of the guys take leave right after they commission to get married themseleves... I've seen it done for Navy and Air Force

Re: Feeling a little lost....: We just found out we may not have a Best Man

The Best man is trying to join the Navy (odd since the talked nothing but smack about the Navy before now) as an officer since he finished school. Jim told me last night Im not supposed to wave it in his face but this ‘man’ was the same guy who made fun of my Father and Brother for being Navy “They take anyone” .. yep.. like you.

Anyway.. in order for him to join as an officer his whole family must have American Citizenship, so he’s waiting on this brother to finally finish that up.

Last I heard, the Best Man put in his application and must wait for a reply. I’m guessing the Navy gets lots of applications and needs to weed through them. For now, we are in limbo. He should know a better answer in the next 3 months.

They might not throw a good bach party, but at least you know they'll always be there. It would be a nice honor for them. Does your FH have any other friends or family on his side so its not all your side he could ask? Maybe his friend can get a pass for that weekend.

Re: Feeling a little lost....: We just found out we may not have a Best Man

It looks like that for the time being you have to wait it out!!! However, I think your brothers would be a wonderful idea; they would probably be thrilled!!! Right now you probably have to look at all your options and be prepared for a worst case scenario, unfortunately!!! Good luck in your decision making!!

ETA: I don't think 14 is too young for a groomsman!!!

Re: Feeling a little lost....: We just found out we may not have a Best Man

There is no Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties scheduled for us. No engagement party either. We got engaged and had dinner with my family and maid of honor.

Other friends??? Hrmm I asked last night, but it would be like a guy he hasn’t seen since High School but bumped into the hall over a year or so ago and we have his number but haven’t called. I’m not sure I want that person as a groomsman. I’d rather have my brothers which Jim at least is more actively involved with.

Jim & I are friendly people (I’m slightly overly friendly) but odd thing is we both are very solitary people as well. We both have friends from our past we hardly EVER communicate with. Even his Best Man is lucky to hear from us every few months. When we started dating I took Jim to meet my parents and we decided to use that trip to also visit his best friend (Best Man) and I remember them saying it was great cause this way they saw each other once a year. Before that, it was maybe once every few years.

He & I are happy with each other alone or with our own little quirks, reading, computers, TV, Games whatever.. We aren’t the type that goes ‘out’ much. We are trying to change by going to all the GTG this board has. We’ve met great people here too. We are just a little too lay back I guess.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
