Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

hi everyone.

anyone ever make chocolate lollipops on their own - we were thinking of making them as favors for the engagement party to try and save some money ---

do you guys think this is something that we can do affordably- and has anyone ever made them before?

if so, any direction on where to go to get the stuff and directions to do so?

thanks in advance for the help

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

We made chocolates (not lollipops though) for our engagement party. We used colored chocolate and regular chocolate and bought molds in the shape of engagement rings, hearts, champagne glasses, etc. Everyone thought they were wonderful!

There is this GREAT little store in Nassau for all that kind of stuff. (lollipop molds too). I forget the name of it, but I will ask FH when I talk to him later.

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

I did chocolate lollipops for our engagement party. They were roses. You can get the chocolate and molds at any party or craft store. I went to Michaels & Party City. You can also buy the lollipop sticks there too.

It is easy to do! You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler, or do it the easy way and use the microwave! Just don't heat it up too long, or it will get too hard! I usually do it in small incriments until it is melted smoothy. But there will also be melting directions on the package itself!

They you just fill up the molds with the chocolate and the lollipop sticks. To cool them faster, place in the refrigerator.

Hope this helps!

If you are looking for a store that specializes in chocolate and stuff like that, go visit the Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale. Im pretty sure it is on main street. they have a website too. Give them a call, Im sure they'll help. They are really nice people.

Yes, that's the store I went to! The Chocolate Duck!!! Ok, so it is in Suffolk afterall.
They are great. I would just call ahead before you decide to visit, b/c they sometimes have weird hours on the weekend.

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

Making the chocolate itself is very easy but I really dont recomend doing it in the micro there is such a fine line on when it is good to go and when it burns. And when it burns man does it smell.

Use double boilers see if you can use two so that you can have a constant flow of chocolate that is ready to go. You put hot water on the bottom NOT boiling.

There is a booth in Tri County Flea market that sells the Chocolate and the molds. I would rather get the Chocolate from a place like that or Chocolate Duck than getting it from Michaels or a craft store only b/c it is fresher. Also the chocolate is sold buy the pound there and if you ask the people working there they may be able to tell you how much chocolate each mold holds.

Buy a couple of molds so you can do a few at a time and don't put it in the freezer to cool them faster b/c they will lose their shine.

Also never wash the molds with soap it takes the finish off them and again the cholocate will lose its shine.
Good Luck

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

I used to make them all the time for holidays & occassions. They are super easy to do. Melt, pour, refrigerate, repeat. Tap the tray on the counter to get rid of air bubbles and twist the stick in the mold so it is completely covered in chocolate.

The molds/trays cost about $2-3 each and the chocolate is $2.99ish a pound. I think you get about 15 medium sized pops from a pound of chocolate. They have white, dark and milk chocolate flavors.

I have seen them put out in decorated baskets and one of my friends made a little cake out of styrofoam rings and used them as a centerpiece for a baby shower.

I am not sure where you are but there's also a chocolate store on Jericho turnpike in New Hyde Park and one in Flushing, Queens. LMK if you need the addresses for these stores, I can look them up.

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

Hi, I make chocolate all the time, I live in Brooklyn so I buy my chocolate at a place called JoMart on Nostrand Avenue and Avenue R. I don't know if you are familiar with that though.
A tip is that when you melt the chocolate you can do it right in the microwave. You don't need to bother with the stove, you put some chocolate in a bowl and put it in the micro, a little at a time and then keep turning it until it is melted don't put it on for too long or it will burn. Once it is melted pour into the mold and place mold in freezer, don't forget to put the stick in the mold also you will see the place for the stick. Put stick first and then choc. once it is hard it will pop right out and then you can get the bags to go over the lollipops and some ribbon to wrap the bags together, it is easy and not expensive at all!

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

I make all kinds of chocolates...always on the stove..it comes out so much better. I get my supplies at Grandma's Candy Kitchen in wantagh on wantagh ave. just to let you know if you choose to use color chocolate it is harder to work with and you need to ask them for something that you add to it ( I forgot what it is called,..it's white) to make it easier to melt and comes out smoother. Just an idea for you..i made chocolate covered preztels for a few parties i went to and everyone was amazed by them...they are so easy to make too. you can put anything on them that you want...sprinkles, pb chips, toffee crunch, anything really...they look really pretty and if you wrap them up the right way they would be perfect. they sell them in gourmet chocolate stores but you can make them yourself

Re: Making chocolate lollipops for Party Favors?

I have made them for work events. I got the supplies and molds from Michaels. I got the candy from the candy shop in Farmingdale. It is fun...but does take time. Use the microwave to melt the candy...it goes faster!
