NWR: PICS OF OUR NEW ADDITIONS-FERRETS!!! Update:
(PICS ARE ON THE 2ND PAGE)On Wednesday, I happened to call Petland and they said they would be getting 2 kits in the next day, but they had no idea how old or what colors. So FH, my daughter and I, went looking at a few shops on Thursday (completely disappointed), then I remembered and called back Petland....
Well, they had just arrived!! We sprinted over to the shop, and fell in love with the exact ones we wanted a 6 week old silver mitt male, and a 6 wk chocolate female. Without even having the cage or supplies yet, we put a deposit on them, and the manager was so happy with our enthusiasm, he set them up in the back of the store for us for the next week until the cage we wanted comes in. We've been back to the store several times in the past 3 days to visit Snowball (boy) and Cupcake (girl)!! As soon as they are home, I will post pictures!!
THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT STOOD UP FOR ME AND OFFERED ADVICE! Really and truelly!!

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
We're not picky, we've gone to Rockville center's Parrots Paradise (??) and they have them for $150, which is alot to me, and a few of my students said there are other places...just don't know where.

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
We went to a breeder in New Jersey or Pa. I can't quite remember since it was about 10 years ago. We just lost our little ones this past year and have decided not to get another one until after we are married.I would highly recommend using a breeder. JMO, but they are much larger than store ferrets and may be healthier too. Unfortunately stores may 'mass produce' and then fix or de-scent them at a early age which can stunt their growth. We found these things out when we started looking at breeders way back when.
There are many adoption clubs online too. http://www.metroferret.com/
Good luck and they are wonderful playmates!!!

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
There's a pet store in Bayshore called Zeus' Aquarium. I know that they have ferrets there, but I'm not sure for how much. I believe they're $100 though.

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
Please, Please, Please do not get your ferrets from a pet store. There are many ferrets that have been rescued and are waiting to be adopted. Buying from a pet store helps to continue the vicious cycle of people buying and cruelly abandoning these animals after they realize how much maintainence they really are. The ferrets in pet stores are also not properly cared for, have not been properly bred and are more likey to get sick as a result. I don't know if you have ever had ferrets before, but please be aware that they require a great deal of attention. They are not like a cat or dog that can be left on its own. You can FM me for more information if you would like. I am also attaching a link to a local ferret club that rescues these animals.http://aferretclub.com/web1/

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
the worst part was definitely holding him while he was put to sleep and the fact that he was sick..they are so tiny and he had what the doctor thought was a hairball in his belly so he stopped eating..they wanted to operate and i said NO WAY..he was only a pound..i was not operating on him..the best part was absolutely hands down his hop and honk as i call it..he made the cutest noises when you walked in the room..he would be so excited to see me!! he also dragged large items (my winter boots or my heavy planner) around the room and hid them under the bed..it was amazing to see how strong his teeth were..

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
I want to also add one thing to look out for. If there is a tattoo on one of their ears (2 blue dots), they are Marshall brand ferrets. They are not healthy animals and the facility is not reputable (to put it nicely). Petland stores sell Marshall ferrets.

I was waiting for someone one to mention Marshall farms. I had a ferret- my dear Sidney- he died of adrenal cancer. He was a Marshall farm ferret. I did some research about them.. Marshall farms not only sells their ferrets to pet stores put also laboratories to be tested on. Please do not support them.

I am sorry, I lost my sweet Snoopy to adrenal cancer. I wont ever forget my FH staying home for 3 days to feed him baby food mixed with antibiotics and pedialite every 2 hours. He was also a Marshall ferret.

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
wow, i've heard both sides of the marshall pets saga, some have said that they do testing to help the ferrets with the different diseases that they get, while others like yourselves ssay don't support them. so confusing, i'll let FH know all of your input...

Re: NWR: FERRETS??
I would also agree with adopting or fostering one from the ferret club at the website someone else provided. I have had 5 ferrets that I have bought at pet stores and then I adopted my last one. Unfortunatley they have since been put to sleep from old age and cancer but my fiance and I plan to adopt a few when we get our house. They are awesome pets.Let me know if you need any info!!
