I cannot believe that its finally set. We are getting married on October 20, 2001 at the DeSeversky Center! We searched and searched and finally found the perfect place!!!! It took some convincing from me to get my parents to bring down the number of their guests, but they are willing to do it, so we are set!!!!! Thank you everyone for their suggestions for reception sites.......

Now, all we have to do is to find transportation, photographers, videographers, flowers, DJ, favors, invitations, hair/makeup person, book the honeymoon, and most importantly MY DRESS!!! WOW!!! Its just the beginning!!!YEH!!!!

Thank you! You will find the perfect place that you and your fi really want. Be patient. There were times that I really just wanted to settle and just pick a place, but my fi helped me keep things into perspective.....do not settle, even though it is just one day.....it is your wedding day!

Good luck as I'm sure you will find and book a place when you find the right one!!:-)

Uh Oh, I'm also getting married on 10/20/01! I better start booking vendors before you girls snatch up all the good ones!

So, in a nutshell, even after all of this, and the fact that they still can't find my table shots (and, probably won't), I would still recommend Fine Art(believe it or not), because the quality of the pictures I did receive, as well as the outstanding quality of the video they did, was worth it.

Questions for Neda

Would you mind telling me what the costs are like at DeSeverksy (don't have to be specific on your wedding). Also is the max. 125 people for a sit down? Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know after I've seen them all!

congrats donna!!! i live right near stewart manor it's really a beautiful place. i just got back from my honeymoon, Bali was great, keep it in mind. i live in west hempstead, and i work A LOT so i needed my vendors to be close, my photographer was in elmont, dj in garden city, and both were phenomenal. good luck

Congrats on your wedding! I must ask you, where did you find your silver bridesmaids dresses?? It is so hard to find a nice dress in this color and I have looked everywhere. I have kind-of decided on black for my wedding now.

You are right, Watermill is awesome! I have been to various events there and every time is great!

Questions for Neda--to karen

The max is 120, and they can squeeze in a few more people, for the sit down dinner. The price is about $165/pp, but they are increasing their prices for next year, for people who have not booked yet and are still looking.

good luck!

donna, the dj i used was in the mix and i think the guys name was jack. the number is 1-888-843-6499. i had what they call a wedding on a cloud, where they made fog on the floor for my first dance, he said i looked like i was really dancing on a cloud. i had a buch of other stuff that was really cool, and not that expensive, other places wanted so much more for less stuff! good luck, call them!

Good Luck!!

Neda,

deSversky is gorgeous. i've left 2 messages for them - also seeing if i could afford them. does the $165 (soon to increase as you say) inc everything? (cake, place, bridal suite for evening? or just the day and food?)

Jenn Z, did u mean to respond to my inquiries to Neda re: Seversky and similar places/price ranges? your reponse doesn't say anything...just curious.

Everyone's opinion is different. I tend not to always be bound by etiquette. I think people need to do what feels right for them, within reason.

Hi! The $165 is for the entire place, food, cake and bridal suite for the day. If you want additions, in terms of shrimp cocktail bar, or raw bar, etc., then that would raise the price.

Another place that you may want to look at is Coindre Hall. It is a really beautiful mansion in Huntington. It is a little less refined than Deserversky, because it used to be a boys school for 30 years, but it is really beautitul. There are two caterers who cater there, one of which is Lessings (which we did not like after going to a tasting...their food was good, but they did not pay attention to detail), and there is another caterer for them, but I do not know their name. I'm sure you can get their name from Coindre Hall. the price is about $95/pp (that was with lessings) plus a site fee ($2000, I think).

u can check out the Harrison House in Glen Cove, similar to DeSeversky but i think a step up definitely...and it is not as tight a squeeze either. Check it out, its a little more than DeSeversky but ur getting what u pay for..... we may do our rehearsal dinne at deseversky.

My fiance and I are planning to take a day out and go driving through the surrounding towns. I know of a place in Bay Shore, on Montauk Hwy that might work, but Michael O'Neill said we'd need a permit (only $20 or so). And I also wanted to look into Gardener Park, also along Montauk Hwy. Hopefully we'll find some other places, but as a matter of convenience, Belmont might be it.

I'm not aware of whether particular places are "ranked" as a "step up or step down" from one another. Harrison House is beautiful and we actually went and looked at it for our wedding. A nice feature is that they have overnight accomodations for you and your guests. The cocktail area is pretty, price wise for the same package, it is actually a bit less expensive than Deserversky, but the BIG negative about Harrison House, in me and my fi's opinion, was the modern dining area used for the reception. It just doesn't match the rest of the estate....my fi commented that it looked a bit like a high school cafeteria.

Well, we believe its really what u make of it....people transform rooms all the time for weddings. We thought it was far more unique than the basic square room. I found the main room at DeSeversky to be very Bland myself. I thought the touch of hte outside lights on the trees, and the oval shaped room was fabulous at harrison....we really want het wedding to be an EXPERIENCE for our guest which is why we chose Harrison...the main room can be as fabulous as you would like to make it....ive seen it transformed into a beautiful elegant setting, not AT ALL like a cafeteria...good luck at DeSeversky...

Elizabeth,

Yes, you are exactly right -- It is what you make of it and I am sure that your event will be beautiful and you have chosen an exquisite location. My intention was not to insult your taste (which it appears my comments have done -- if so, I apologize). In fact, one of the good things about choosing among different locations is that what you may see as a drawback another bride-to-be may see as a benefit, and vice versa. Thank goodness that is the case or every bride would be fighting over the same location (or every wedding location have to look identical to make anyone happy). I was simply pointing out what my fi and I interpreted as a drawback of the sight from our perspectives (we were specifically looking for a turn-of-the century estate/castle/mansion). I would however make one comment -- I think it is important not to suggest that particular sights are 'better' or 'worse' than others -- we all have different budgets and tastes and to indicate that one place is a 'step-up' or 'step-down' is not the best way to support each other -- which is what I hope this site is intended to do.

Thank you for your email. I apologize as well, you were right and I certainly didn't mean it the as a put down. DeSeversky is VERY BEAUTIFUL and we loved it as well. I know your wedding will be beautful....and best of luck to you....
Take care

Thank you very much. I will call Allison and try to negotiate a better rate. I did already speak with her and she was the one who quoted me the 250.00 rate. Do you know if it is standard practice to negotiate room prices if you block rooms? Your price and mine are dramatically different, but it could also be the particular weekend, since our wedding is in Oct. (or maybe they just gave you their birthday special :-). It's just difficult for brides b/c we don't know if we are getting screwed on the price, since they can quote you ANY price (and tell you its a bargain). I just feel a bit naive in terms of how to get a better rate.
