we had my mom read the apache blessing:
Now you will feel no rain,

for each of you will be shelter to the other.


Now you will feel no cold,

for each of you will be warmth to the other.


Now there is no loneliness for you;

for each of you will be a companion to the other.


Now you are two bodies,

but there is only one life before you.


Go now to your dwelling place,

and enter into your days together.


and my mil read from the prophet on marriage:

Then Almitra spoke again and said...
'And what of Marriage, master?'
And he answered saying:

You were born together,
and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when the white wings
of death scatter your days.

Aye, you shall be together even in the
silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love.
Let it rather be a moving sea between
the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

the rabbi and reverend also did a blessing of the hands, did the hebrew prayer that i can't say and also did the lord's prayer.

Art of Marriage

The little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say 'I love you' at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.
It is at no time taking the other for granted;
the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
it should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude or duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.




Corinthians 13:1-13
1: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2: And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3: If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4: Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;

5: it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

6: it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

7: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8: Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

9: For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect;

10: but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.

First Reading–Book of Genesis (2:18-24) (Read by our Best Man)
A Reading from the Book of Genesis
The Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helpmate.”

So from the soil the Lord God fashioned all the wild beasts and all the birds of heaven. These he brought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of heaven and all the wild beasts. But no helpmate suitable for man was found for him.

So the Lord God made the man fall into deep sleep. And while he slept, he took one of his ribs and enclose it in flesh. The Lord God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.

The man exclaimed:
This at last is bone from my bones,
and flesh from my flesh.
This is to be called woman,
for this was taken from man.
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body.
The word of the Lord.


Second Reading–1 Corinthians (13:4-8) (Read by My Bridesmaid)

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails

I wrote this poem for my new husband in our programs. This poem is something personal and describes how DH and I met.

It Began in 1996 At The Lab

Not long ago during our undergraduate days that shy little freshman became the man whom my heart belongs to
My heart will be forever sealed and locked away
Honor my love and hold it true and dear to your heart
No other being holds my heart, my love
You are the only one who sincerely deserve my love
In our own kingdom we shall forever be together, united and strong
Conquer all obstacles and outside forces that intervene between as a team
With this ring as a symbol of my love it has no end
No one can break this circle of trust and love
No one can take me away from you now and forever

We did this one also, my great grandmother read it.

We also did the Hand Ceremony. My DH's sister read it.

bride and groom face eachother and hold hands:
“These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy. These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children. These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”
