My BF (and MOH) is pregnant--UPDATED w/ sad news!!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO super excited!!!! She's about 5 weeks along (by pregnancy standards---3-4 weeks literally). She'll be around 7 months at the time of our wedding---should be interesting trying to find her a dress.....

Any ideas ladies for maternity BM dresses???

Just wanted to announce it to the world--I'm so happy for her. Her other son is now 5--so it's a perfect time for baby #2 (plus, now her long-time boyfriend and the baby's father may actually pop the question!!!) Woo-hoo!!!!

ETA: Gina lost the baby today--she was six weeks along and started to bleed today. She won't need a D&C b/c the process has started naturally..... So, thanks for the great info on maternity dresses, but unfortunately we won't need it Thanks again ladies.....

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

That is exciting. You know the only people I know who make maternity dresses is David's Bridal, but I would look around. They don't always have maternity dresses that actually match the other dresses. You may find yourself better off doing the 'same color, pic your own style ' type of thing with seperates to compensate. Though it does mean the dresses won't necessarily come from the same dye lot.

If you still want conformity, I would try to see if a seamstress can actually take a dress that would be rather large and then mold it into a maternity dress.

OR

Have all the dresses especially made by a seamstress. Could cost less this way anyway.

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

one of my bridemaids is prego...she will also be 7 months at my wedding. And another BM is trying to get pregnant....so we choose a dress with an empire waist and those who are or are planning to get pregnant ordered extra length...the seamstress told us that the extra length would allow her to pull up the waist line and give their growning bellies extra room....what i liked best about this idea is that it won't change the look of the dress.

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

one of my bridesmaids was 7 months along at my wedding. My girls picked their own dresses from David's in Peri. Well...the PG BM went to her fave bridal salon (Paradise in Patchogue) and found a dress that flattered her PG belly and asked me to go pick the color.....

She picked this and honestly I can't remember if it was Riviera Sky or Cornflower..they were both SO similar to the Peri color, she was a PERFECT match to everyone else.

Here is the Alfred Angelo dress she wore....do you see how that panel that is asymetrical at the bottom comes across? Well, they had altered her dress and let that panel out a bit to cover her belly and she really looked great. Any empire waisted dress is very flattering for a PG BM, but try to aim for the flowy fabrics.

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

Some designers have maternity dresses I don't know which ones but it is probably better to get her one of those instead of a regular dress b/c it will fit better...That is so exciting I love when people have such great news!

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

Congrats to your friend! I would consult a good seamstress first- she will know the best course of action. My best friend just had her first child and it was wonderful to have all this joy between us with the baby and my wedding. Sharing each other's joy is what friendship is truly about~the rest of the details will work themselves out!

Re: My BF (and MOH) is pregnant!!!!

Thank you ladies for your great ideas.....we'll get together and see what she wants to do after she's taken the time to let this news sink in a bit......she'll have her own small ceremony to plan also now, so it's a lot for her all at once.

I think we'll probably try the maternity dresses and see what kind of styles are offered and go from there.....unfortunantely, she lives upstate (Orange County) and there isn't a great variety of seamstresses to choose from.....but we'll see.

Thank you SOOO much for the idea of David's.......never even thought of that.

I'm still so excited.....I am in absolute shock (as was she, I'm sure... )
