Help me make a list of things a college freshman needs!

It's official, my sister is going to Johns Hopkins on a full scholarship!

I'm so proud of her. She's studying Mechanical Engineering.

SO she's headed for dorm life, and I'm putting together a list of things she will need. please add anything you think will be useful. Thank you!

ETA: That was already there. How about a computer? There are labs but it is soo much easier having your own.

Congrats to your sis...that is a very grand achievment!!!

That is a very thorough list. I would add a mini safe for some valuables as well....like a small lock box that can be hidden for id, school bills, and maybe even small pieces of jewlery.
Also, maybe if you can find out which bookstore chain is in Johns Hopkins, you can get a gift certificate. (most schools are Barnes & Nobles)

power strips (there's NEVER enough outlets!!!)

****flashlight w/ extra batteries****preferably a good, full sized one, AND a small MagLite to keep in her purse for when she's out at night (coming home, slightly tipsy

) - trust me, you never know....and street lighting isn't always perfect.

Before my parents drove me back each semester, we went to Costco to buy snacks and supplies. I would get a cases of my favorite juices, bottled water, snacks and cereal to keep in my closet or under my bed. It lasted a while and helped me save money for the first half of the semester.

TV/VCR/DVD - I only had a roommate my freshman yr and I'm so happy we each bought our own TV.

telephone/answering machine (if no voicemail)

2 sets of plates, bowls, cups and utensils

That's so great! I agree wiht the suggestions above and I want to add that sometimes college dorm bed are extra long, so she may need extra long sheets.

Also, tylenol, advil, dayquil, claritin, etc etc

ETA: I don't know how often epople use them, but a lot of people put those whiteboards on their doors for messages

Did anyone mention calling cards?

A good dicitonary and an MLA Guide.

I also find 'research papers for dummies' was a good resource when I was feeling stuck on a paper. It really breaks it down
