Re: people doing donations as a favor?
you can buy scrolls or note cards saying'In lieu of favors, a donation has been made to XXXX'
You are supose to give what you would have spent on favors anyway.

Re: people doing donations as a favor?
This is long!My brothers both did donations for their weddings. One just had a framed note talking about who they donated the money to and why they chose them.
My other brother (or I should say SIL) did something very unique. They wanted to do a donation, but they still wanted a rememberance from their wedding so they donated to St. Vincent de Paul.
You get to pick between four or five styles of ornaments. Each ornament is made by people who benefit from the organization. They make the ornaments and then all of the proceeds go back into the program. Its nice because it also gives people a job
Each ornament comes with a ribbon and a tag talking about the organization. On the back of the tag, you can have anything printed (my SIL printed 'Be brave young lovers and follow your star. Be brave and faithful and true.' Its from The King and I.) They also come in a box.Im not sure of the price per ornament, but its a little more than $2.
Everyone thought it was great. We see them on everyones tree at Christmas time. Plus, the non-Catholic guests loved them too because you can use them as sun catchers.

My mom did a donation to the American Cancer Society and framed something with photos of her grandfather and her husband's uncles on each table. On it, there was an explanation that a donation was made in their names in lieu of favors.

FH and I each did a charity that we like. I did the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program, because I interned there 5 years ago and I love their program.I got their latest newsletter, and they wrote a little blurb on me and my husband, and what a new and cool idea it was to donate instead of the favor.

I lost an Uncle who i was very close to, and my FMIL just passed away at the begining of May, both wiyh Cancer, but they were both on Hospice, which works mostly off donations. We plan on donating to them. I think it will be a nice way to remember two amazing people.

We are doing a donation in memory of my grandmother who passed away in January 04 from Parkinson's Disease...FH & I will be donating to the National Parkinson's Foundation...They send you cards stating that a donation was made...They are sending me a sample of their card, so I will post that when I get it...I am going to personalize it a bit though & add my grandma's picture to it & have a little saying...

We're also doing a donation, to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the American Cancer Society. I'd check out some Breast Cancer websites to get more information as to how to donate on behalf of your guests. The ACS provides you with scrolls, but we decided to customize ours.
