Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
which is.......
when all the guests clank their silverware to their glasses and plates so the bride and groom can kiss. Its a pet peeve of mine b/c some guests tend to get a bit obnoxious and try and do it every 5 seconds.......and that annoys the living crap outta me. Its just an annoying noise, just as bad as nails on a board.
So Im hoping this doesnt happen to me.....Isnt this silly, this is what I think about.
I wish ettiquette would let me write a note on the invites 'No Clanking, please'.....

My guests did it sparingly. We used bells when coming out of the church so they brought them to the reception. I would put bells on their place setting with a little card attached and they'll use them instead.

Re: Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
That is SO funny!
I think the clanking tends to go in spurks - they will do it ten times in a row and then not do it again for a while. FH has some annoying friends who might just do it constantly do annoy me and FH

I really don't remember people doing it more than once or twice. They only do it while you are sitting at your table, and how often/long is that?

Re: Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
I was just talking about this last night! I DO NOT want to kiss on demand!!! We don't clink where I come from and I don't want anyone to clink glasses or ring bells. I'm just going to ignore it if anyone does.

Re: Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
Honestly, I think this only happened to us about twice. But....we were only at the table to eat dinner and even got up during dinner to go to the tables, so I guess we didn't give people much of a chance to clink!

I find the clinking to be annoying, too. Those bells sound like a good idea. I'll have to look into that!

Re: Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
My DJ offered us an alternative to this, which she has done at some other weddings and she says really works (especially at small weddings with young and/or silly crowds). She would make an announcement telling our guests that if they want the bride & groom to kiss instead of clinking glasses the entire table must stand up and sing a song with the word 'love' in it.
This would happen only during dinner (when the dancing music is relatively mellow) and she says in her experience there are three things that happen
1. no one does it, but at least it kills the guests' urgest to clink glasses
2. only one table does it, and that becomes a silly high point of the night
OR
3. once one table does it it loosens up the crowd and tables are standing up singing 'All you need is Love' and 'She Loves Me' all night!
I'm still not sure if we will do it, but it sounds like fun.
There is also a mention of this on theknot.com somewhere. . .

Re: Does anyone have the same wedding pet peeve as me?
Where I come from guests pay for the cake to be cut and the bride and groom to kiss... that beats clankling of their glass any day..
... but most of my guests have become 'americanized' so they may want to start clanking...

We did the same thing at my sister's wedding. Much better than the clanking!

I was just going to suggest this. My college roommate did this at her wedding and it worked really well. I think it cut down the -you must kiss now - thing. Though, I don't remember it being done that much at our wedding anyway.

Aw, I liked the clanking! Our guests didn't abuse it. It happened about 4 times. My uncle was a little drunk and kept trying to do it but I saw my cousin stopping him each time.
