The best thing I did for my wedding day . . .

I just wanted to share a piece of advice with the future brides here, since I have received so much helpful advice from this site over the 2 1/2 years I was engaged. If you are going to spend money to make your day the perfect day, seriously consider hiring a Day of Coordinator.

My coordinator was the most amazing decision I made about my wedding. From helping to solve problems, to offering advice, to even just sharing a laugh, my wedding coordinator made my dream wedding a reality. She takes action, before, during and even after the wedding. My family and I never could have pulled off the day as enjoyably and with such ease without her. She knew how I wanted the day to go and she saw to it that everything I wanted and more happened without a glitch. It was the best money I spent for my wedding.

If you can budget the extra money to have someone who's job is to be there with you to make sure your day runs smoothly, don't hesitate. It is never to early, or too late to hire a coordinator for your special day to make your dream wedding become a reality.

I know this might sound cheesey to some, but it is the best advice I can offer to any bride.

If anyone is interested in knowing who my coordinator was and would like the contact info, feel free to FM me!

Re: The best thing I did for my wedding day . . .

I met with a DOC already & am planning on signing the contract next week. The problem is my FH - he thinks I am nuts! He thinks I am being TOO much of a princess & thousands of brides get married without a 'wedding assisant' as he calls it. He thinks it is a complete waste of money. I only want a DOC for the day of to help our day run smoothly.

How do I convince him? He says our catering hall is there to do that - we don't need an extra person. That is why we tip the maitre'de.

Re: The best thing I did for my wedding day . . .

I agree 100%. Last weekend I actually had a full fledged panic attack and came to the realization that I NEED HELP. My wedding is next month & I just hired my DOC,so it really is never too late.
Although I can't rate her performance yet (not until after Sept.10) I can honestly say that she has given me a positive vibe and piece of mind. My best 'splurge' for ME.
FM me for details.

similar to my FH.

I think you should also explain that many of the issues that come up during the day, come up in the beginning...late limos, church issues, floral problems...which all will not be dealt with by your hall. Your hall will be able to deal with the fires and at your point the DOC will be attending more to your needs; your bustle gets ripped (seems to happen at every wedding); you can't find your cake cutter; your lipstick is gone and she is there to fix it...

From my experience, I've seen that most of the 'issues' are dealt with by the bride. If the flowers are wrong, she is the first to see them and needs to take corrective action. She may be the one to get the late limo. She has to deal often with payments, etc... depending on FH's level of involvement.

That said, I desperately want one and even know the one I want. But it is hard to get FH to agree. At one point he said, FINE. But he said it begrudgingly so I am not convinced he truly wants it. I really need to make sure it fits into the budget and that I am ready to forgo other things for it.

DH thought the same thing and so did some of my friends (who arent married yet) so I doubted it at first too, but then I realized whatever it takes for me to have more peace of mind that day was worth it!! And in the end DH knew I was right because it was SOO worth it!

Re: The best thing I did for my wedding day . . .

my mom gave it to me as a 'gift ' so to say- like all the other gifts, she said it will make her life easier too....so maybe there is someone or a group of someones who could chip in and give a DOC to you as an engagement gift or shower gift or something

Re: The best thing I did for my wedding day . . .

I was also thinking of getting a DOC. Everyone thinks I am crazy and just LOVE to spend money on something that is not necessary. My FH already thinks we are spending too much.

How much are they?

Can someone send me FM too. Would definitely like info. Thanks!
