New 06 Bride to be--gown question

Hey Everyone,

My name is Sheethal.
I'm getting married on 9/4/06.

Just wanted to ask you how long it took to find your wedding gowns. I just started looking last weekend. I want to be able to select one in time to get all the alterations done. I'm looking for something off-the-shoulder.

Thanks,
Sunshine06

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

it took me about 3 trips to salons. i bought the complete opposite of what i thought i wanted.

go in with an open mind and try things if the ladies think it will flatter you. the worst that will happen is you don't like it.

you have PLENTY of time to find a dress! good luck!

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

If I find another style that looks great, I'm all for it.

Anyone try David's Bridal? I tried on a few from there already but I want to go back and try some more.

Thanks!

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

Actually I called David's to check for appts last weekend and they told me I didn't need one for trying on gowns. When I got to the store, they made me wait in line to register and try on gowns.

I had to convince one of them to let me browse the gowns while I wait to register. I don't know if that's the deal with most of them.

Hope it helps. I suggest you make an appt.

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

4 bridal salons
About 10 gowns
It was the 1st one I tried on at the last bridal salon.

Keep an open mind and price range!!!

You can also consider getting your dress made or have a replica of a pricey gown if you fall in love with one that is out of your budget!!

I was about to leave when I saw this dress hanging in the wrong section. I told the lady if I could try it on and she said that they have a 4 dress try on maximum. It was a Tuesday and their was only 2 other brides in the store. I told her I didn't know and if she could please let me try it on and she budged. I think it was God sent because it was the one It's everything that I always wanted in a dress! It came in three weeks The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that it came in wrinkled I didn't say anything because I knew that I had to get it altered, but it ***** because it doesn't make me want to post pictures of it yet. Good luck.

P.S. When dress shopping, I fell in love with Mori Lee!!!! Great designer and I love her dresses!

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

Hi Sheethal, welcome to LIW!! You still have plenty of time to find a dress. If you're not 'sold' on any you've seen yet, just keep looking. I went to two different bridal shops and tried on close to 25 gowns before I knew I had found 'the one'.

Just a tip - when you do find your gown, be sure to tell the shop that you're getting married at least a month earlier than your real wedding date. This way, if the dress comes in a bit late, you'll still have plenty of time for alterations. Good luck!

Re: New 06 Bride to be--gown question

Welcome to LIw..you will soon be addicted!!!! GOOD LUCK with all of your planning!!!

I went to one salon and it was the first dress I tried on. Unfortunaltey for me, the salon closed but now I have another place handling everything for me. I think it depends on your style and if you have an idea in your head of what you like and what you do not like. I knew that and the choice was easy

Mel, do you have a picture from the internet? I would love to see it. I am still shopping for a dress and I will definitely check out Mori Lee.

Welcome fellow '06 bride!!!
My sister took 6 months and 20 bridal salons to find her dress. I spent three days on the internet, found one dress I loved, called around until I found it in stock someplace, tried it on, fell in love, ordered it. It was actually amusing, because I went with my sister to try it on, and I kept repeating over and over 'it can't be this easy!' She reminded me that for her it wasn't, and that everyone is an individual.
