LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

Okay, so I called Charmet Bridal on Bell Blvd to find out the price of the bridesmaid dress we all decided on. When I looked online for pricing ideas, one site said it was $129. So I call, and they tell me the dress is $189, but that includes alterations. Are alterations worth $60? I've attached a pic of the dress.

Help!! Is it worth it or should I shop around? Charmet is like 5 mins from FIL's house, so it is sooooo convenient.

Thanks!

Re: LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

it looks like it's two layers, which would make the alterations more expensive. $60 isn't a really bad price, but it also isn't a really good price, however $189 all included is a really good price, and the dresses are sooo cute! Do you know if thier alterations are reputable? It's nice that they cap them, so at least people know what they have to pay up front, and they don't have to find somewhere..

It is 2 layers. I'm not sure, but I've heard good things about Charmet overall.

if you are going to hem these gowns make sure they do not just cut the bottom with the scallop off. make sure they sew that part back on if they can.
the price sounds good including the alterations. good luck

Re: LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

look into how the alterations are, it'll stink if the girls have to go somewhere else to have them fixed, and pay twice. But if they are good, then I think you should go for it...

You mean, I should make a post asking people? Or should I ask the actual bridal shop how they do the alterations?

Re: LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

Is it $60 no matter what or a $60 cap? A $60 cap is pretty good for the ones who need a lot of alterations. $60 no matter what won't be good for the BMs who only need a hem. My salon had a $75 cap for BM dresses-some met the cap and some didn't. The cap sounded especially reasonable when I learned that my 2 OOT BMs, who I doubt needed many alterations, were charged $100 (in Connecticut) and $150 (in Delaware) for alterations.

Well, it is $189 for dress and any alterations needed. I said it was about $60 for alterations, because I saw online that the dress runs for $130 roughly. But $189 is a flat price no matter what the alteration is.

So you think they'll be able to hem the dress and keep the scalloped hem?

Thanks! I like that it is black lace over satin, and you can choose the color satin. So I'll have my MOH is a slightly different color from my BMs

Re: LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

I think anything under $200 that includes alterations is a pretty good deal. Another perk is that noone will probably need to run out and get shoes, since they can just wear black.

Try calling Charisol on Northern Blvd. before you commit to Charmet. They might give you a better price. 718-939-5269

Re: LIW girls to the rescue...I need your expertise!

My mom got her dress at Charmet - she just went for her 2nd fitting. The seamstress is SOO detailed. As far as the scallop hem, she would probably take it up in the waist, so the scallop part can remain intact. I thinkl $60 is good for alterations. My MOH who lives in Chicago paid $85 for hers at a local place!!

I agree - that is what i think that she would do with the hem!
