From what I understand you don't have to tip them - but I always have. But I also always feel obligated to tip everyone - especially in wedding world.

Re: Do you tip the makeup person if she comes to your house
I am planning on tipping my mu person. I feel bad that she's going to have to put up with my whole bridal party!

Of course... IMO it makes it more important to tip because she is travelling to you.

Re: Do you tip the makeup person if she comes to your house
really? The makeup people I am looking at are charging $250 just for me and the hair people are $300 just for me!! In my opinion they need no tip unless they truly work some magic...I feel that I have to put a stop to all this money exchanging at some point. JMO!

Re: Do you tip the makeup person if she comes to your house
It depends, if she goes above and beyond then yes. Because that's what a tip is, getting a little extra for doing a little extra. But if she just simply does what I'm paying her to do then she'll just receive her regular fee. With all the $$$ we're dishing out the line has to be drawn somewhere!!

I'm sorry, I disagree. This is the woman who is making you look so beautiful on your wedding day and coming to your house as a convenience to you. I personally could not think of NOT tipping, even if it's only 15-20 bucks. That should not break the bank. I mean, I gave 15 for my makeup trial so why should the day of be any different...JMHO

Well thats your choice on both counts. Using someone who charges that much and to tip... thats just MY opinion. But its the right thing to do.
ETA: If you go to Applebees or Peter Lugers and the service is the same, dont you tip? Its your choice to spend the extra money on the restaraunt... same concept.

Re: Do you tip the makeup person if she comes to your house
tipping is a personal choice. MU & hair people who are coming to your house are charging TRIPLE what it would cost to go to a salon.

I tipped my hair and makeup vendors. They both did a great job on the entire bridal party.

actually, no - it's not really my choice to use someone that charges so much. I am in NYC and these are the 'going rates'. Oksana and some of the other vendors are booked on my day - believe me, I looked into it. Also, I would have to pay cheaper vendors to travel into the city.

Ok then dont tip... you wont ever see them again.
And as far as them working some magic, hopefully you got a trial to see what you will be paying for.

I just wanted to say that when you go to Applebees or Peter Lugers, the servers are not recieving the money that you pay for your meal, they are making about $3.50 an hour, plus tips. When a make-up person, or a hair person comes to your home-they are keeping the entire amount of money. I think if you are going to a salon or spa you should absolutely tip-but not when they are coming to you, or whne you go to thier homes.
I worked as a bartender and a waitress for 7 years-so I know what it's like to live off tips. Also, my cousin was a colorist for a few years, and she wouldn't expect tips when she moonlighted....
I think if you tip extra-that really awesome, but I don't think it's required, like it would be if you went to a shop-JMHO.

Thats exactly what I mean. The wait staff shouldnt get less money for a tip because they are opening their wallet a little more for the food.
I dont understand the difference between going to the salon or your house except that I feel that if I were travelling to you to make it more convenient for you, the tip should relect that too if one is to be given.
