Wedding dress ordering... measurements questions
I just ordered my dress yesterday!!! 
But I am a little worried. 
They took my measurements while I was wearing the sample dress, which was way too big on me.
Is this normal?
I am scared that I am going to get a dress that is too big and will need a lot of alterations... which may jus ruin the dress (I've heard horror stories of this happening to other brides)
Aren't they suppose to take your measurements with just your undergarments on, in order to get your true measurements?????

HI again.
Okay I haven't heard from anyone and I was getting a little nervous, so I called a co-worker who is getting married in April.
She said they took her measurements while she was wearing her dress, too. They gaged what size dress to order based on the dress size she was wearing.
Hope everything works out!

Should I ask to see their size chart for my dress designer and make sure they ordered the right size?

She first took my measurements with jean shorts on. Then she said we better go into the back room and slide them off and try again. The measurements were about 1/2 inch off.

wow, you are scaring me! I never even thought of this. They took my measurements in clothes..it was jean shorts and a tank top or something. They ordered the smallest size tho so I guess it wouldn't have affected the size they ordered but it's still giving me that panic-y feeling that they did it this way!

Don't be scared, just careful - what they sometimes do is figure out how many "inches" off of the sample size you are (bigger or smaller)... and then go from there.
What I mean is that they know that the sample size is for a certain waist size and then measure you with the dress ON to figure out how much more diameter or less is needed in the material. It's just a way of double checking. Other times they only go by the actual measurements with undergarments only. They did BOTH when I ordered my gown.
Regardless though it'd be good to search for a size chart online or demand to see one at the salon so you know they got the right size. The main thing is that usually the gowns ARE too big when they come in and have to be altered even if your weight stays the same... because they simply take your largest measurement (chest, waist, OR hips) and order that size. Therefore it may not fit EVERYWHERE automatically when it comes in. Hope that helps!

They took my measurments when I had my regular clothes on but she took into account I was wearing jeans. Kind of weird that they'd measure you with the dress on. I'd call them and verify the size. Maybe ask to speak with a manager or something.

They will do several fittings (they should!). They're trying to get a ballpark the first time around to see which size to order and then they will make any changes. Unless this a custom made dress they have a set of standard dress sizes to choose from and work from there.

I wouldn't worry too much b/c they'll order a dress that's bigger for you anyway. It can always be taken in, not out!

They almost didn't take my measurements at all because the sample fit me perfectly, but then they did take only my bust and waist with the dress on.
For my bridesmaids, they took the measurements with regular clothes on.

Don't worry, I am sure they know what they are doing. The place I went did Hollow to Hem while in the dress and then, and then they took mesurments with my clothes on. I was between two sizes and I went with the smaller size, since I plan to loose a little weight.
They measure brides all the time. Call them if you feel uneasy about it.
