Re: no cocktail hour

I did not know that they did that... but call and ask around a few halls and maybe they can give you an idea over the phone... or at least tell you if it is an option.

Re: no cocktail hour

I dont think its a good idea.

If cutting costs is something you need to look at do it in an area that is not food.

Food is an important part of every affair that you and others will remember.

I did something different and instead broke it up so that Cocktail hour is first THEN ceremony then Reception since all parts are at the same place.

Maybe cut some corners on flowers or use a DJ to replace a band if your using one.

Re: no cocktail hour

If you want to save money you may want to consider having a cocktail hour reception. A lot of people love cocktail hour because of the variety of food. Some places do offer that.

Re: no cocktail hour

You can probably have a buffet style wedding but I think normal catering halls don't do this.

Re: no cocktail hour

Vanderbilt Mansion in Oackdale has this!

Everyone always loves the Dh the best anyway.

What is your budget? there may be some halls out there where you can afford the whole shebang!

Re: no cocktail hour

I'm having a mansion style wedding. It is not a sit down dinner, just passed food and stations.

I think that's definitely doable, especially if you're willing to consider a sunday afternoon or an off season! I think there are a few palces where you can get that price range. I don't know for sure but off the top of my head, I am thinking in an off season on a sunday, maybe le cordon bleu, ariana waterfall, maybe chataeu la mer, rivieria of massapequa, meadow club, sunset harbour... or maybe one of the smaller rooms at Fox Hollow?

I'm not sure about this, prices have changed since I looked, but..I think it's doable

Re: no cocktail hour

Call Lessing's. They cater at a bunch of different places on LI. I'm sure one of them does the cocktail hour reception. My wedding was $115 pp including tax and gratuity and that was a Saturday night with everything, CH, reception, vianese hour, cake, vallet, coat check, premium open bar. I'm sure they will work with you. I had my wedding at West Sayville Country Club. Call and ask for Steve, he is so awesome and he really worked with me. 631-589-0022

Re: no cocktail hour

EastWind has a cocktail dinner. I think it's called around the world, or something like that, and it's a lot cheaper...

I second calling Steve at the W. Sayville CC. My parents threw us an e-party there and it was spectaular! They really did a fabulous job.

Re: no cocktail hour

Call Ben at Timber Point CC... they are in your range and it is amazing there! (including everything!)

I went to a wedding w/out a cocktail hour, and it was horrible. Everyone went to the bar & paid for drinks & everyone was talking how they have never had that before. I think if you are going to have it at a catering facility with the traditional reception, def. have the cocktail.

Re: no cocktail hour

Halls that I know of in that price range are. Meadow Club, East Wind (Country Gardens), Many of the Lessings like Smithtown Landing, Huntington Town House, There are many others, but I can't think of them. They might not be in your exact price range, but very close.

I would either do a Buffet style wedding, or cocktail hour and dinner. People enjoy cocktail hour the most.

Re: no cocktail hour

I think people mainly look forward to cocktail hour food, rather than reception food. I know I look forward to the cocktail hour the most!! Maybe have a cocktail reception instead???
