My mother wants to wear black!
Please help! What can I tell my mother to prevent her from wearing black? I think it is innappropriate and can't stand the thought of it. Her and my father believe I should have no say in the choice of her dress, and that it should be up to them.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I wouldnt like white, but IMO black can look very elegant sometimes. I think it depends on the dress. Have any pics?Unless its really inappropriate I wouldnt worry so much about it.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
You can get some really fashionable black gowns. But I do understand your displeasure. I've found with my mom that if you just make fun of it she'll be unsure and change her mind.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
My mom is wearing black because she looks best in that color and I actually like it - I think it is very formal and classy but if you really don't like it maybe she could compromise and wear navy.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I think it used to be considered inappropriate. But, it's considered very elegant now. Unfortunately, I don't think you can tell your mom what to wear. I know I wouldn't. My future mother in law is wearing black, and silver and I don't care.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I think black can be very elegant, but if you are still upset about it, why don't you suggest a color like dark navy??

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
Yes she knows how I feel. I told her that I think black is a mourning color not a wedding color. She thinks it doesn't matter how I feel. Only how my father feels.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I wouldn't stress too much about it. My mom is wearing black because she looks the best in it and to be honest, i don't really care what color she picks, except for white of course.
My BM's are wearing black and my FMIL might get a black dress. So it will end up being a black and white wedding most likely.
Just out of curiousity... why don't you want her wearing black? What is your FMIL wearing?

My girls are wearing navy, and my MIL wants to wear black
Over my dead body. My mother is probably going to wear cranberry - there's NO reason FMIL can't buy champagne.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
My mom wore black and though I questioned it at first, it was simply because she felt more flattered in itshe also did not have her hair and makeup done professionally and I had to accept that.
As brides, we feel that we can tell everyone involved what to do and wear because it is our day....well hate to break it to ya but your mom is an adult and has the right to make her own decisions.
you just have to deal with your feelings on your own

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
My mom was actually the one that felt uncomfortable wearing black - but I made her buy the gown. She looked the best in the black gown and I didnt mind at all - i agree that black looks very elegant and formal!

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
i don't think the mob or mog should wear black to what is supposted to be the best day of their childs life. there are soo many other ptions out there, i don't see how black can be the only option

My mom is wearing black, and I am so happy about it because it is very elegant. However, if you are really against it, then just tell her how you feel. I am sure she will respect your feelings.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I was upset at first when I saw my mother's dress and felt that she shoudl not wear black to her daughters wedding. HOWEVER, I decided it was not worth getting upset over. And honestly, on my wedding day, I totally forgot all about it.Welcome New Vendors
