Birth Control Question

okay, so I have one pack of my BP left. My dr last year wrote out the prescription for me and it was for a years worth.

Here's my problem and question: I'm DEATHLY terrified of doctors. To the point where I tend to pass out during exams. It's an awful phobia to have. In your experience, does your Dr. make you come in for an exam before writing you another prescription?

I've been procrastinating calling my Drs. office....

Re: Birth Control Question

Mine would make me come in for an annual appt. once my year worht was done - before she would write a prescription for another year worth. If I needed another pack because mine would run out before the appt, they would give me a hold-over pack (1 month) as long as I made an appt.

I hate doctors too - my yearly is next tuesday and I am feeling sick about it. If it wasn't for the fact I need BC, I would probably never go (I know that is bad, but I HATE going).

Sorry you're so afraid of MDs, but I wouldn't skip your annual gyno appt. I think that's one doctor you don't want to avoid. Think of it this way - your annual visit could help prevent a ton of visits if god forbid you have a problem down the line that goes undetected.

Ugh! I don't think my dr would do that, only because I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to see me as much as I don't want to see her. She actually had the nurse right 'F' in my file for 'Fainter' I don't know much more embarrasing it can be to faint in the middle of your annual exam!

Re: Birth Control Question

I doubt the Dr. will write another prescription w/o seeing you especially since you haven't gone in 1 year. My Dr. usually writes prescriptions for 6-8 months. The only time I got a few refills w/o seeing her was when my prescription was going to run out before my appointment (it can take up to 2 months to get an appointment at my Dr.'s office).

Seriously, sorry you are terrified. But I agree, the yearly (PAP!!) is one appointment you want to keep! Maybe they can give you something to calm your anxiety?

Re: Birth Control Question

You really need to go and get your pap anyway. Can you take something for the anxiety before hand so you don't get so stressed out?

I would call your regular doc and get a script for xanax or valium..

Re: Birth Control Question

Yeah Sasha - I'm scarlet letterd!!! Like that Seinfeld episode!!!

Thanks Ladies - I know,,,, I'm 35 and NEED TO GET OVER IT!!!!

I called the office and they are going to call in a script for 2 months and then I have to make an appointment. I know how important it is.

I have a bottle of ativan for anxiety that I'm very frugle with. Unfortunately, I get myself soooooooooo worked up that even my anti anxiety meds don't work!

It really is rather pathetic and embarrasing!

I'll give you one more embarrassing one: my gyno asked me if I had been abused ever, because I was crying and so scared to have an annual exam. Of course I haven't. I just had such a fear that I had been building up for years. But it's not so bad now that I've gotten used to it. But that was really embarrassing.

Re: Birth Control Question

Back to your question. Really, I think you should just go and have it done because it's better to get in the habit of going than to skip for years and years. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it really is the healthiest thing for you. Why don't you have your DH drive you and you can have a drink beforehand to relax you? I know it won't help a lot but it can cut the edge. I used to really be so scared to have an exam, it was terrible.

I agree with everyone that this is one type of dr. that you don't want to miss an annual exam, too much could go wrong
