repost - wedding photo albums

I'm looking for a photographer and I see that a lot of them include an album and other pics in their pricing.

Are the albums they generally offer enough? I saw one place said it was a 36 picture album. When they take over 1,000 pics, how could I narrow it down to 36? And is it very expensive to go beyond what they offer? Is is cheaper to go with someone where the album isn't built into the price and you can make your album after the wedding?

What else do I need to watch out for?

The album should have your favorite photos. Some designer/magazine style albums have many more photos -- 70 and up.

You will also have 4x6 prints of all the other photos. You can put these in albums that hold 4x6 size prints. This can supplement your couples' album.

I usually suggest that a bride ask a friend or two to give her an album that holds 4x6's at her bridal shower.

The album supplied by the photographer is assembled by various album makers that only work with photographers. Typically they are a custom library mounted album and cost the photographer a lot of money. Albums like these become heirlooms. It's usually more economical to order a package that includes an album.

Albums take a lot of time and supervision on the part of the photographer. Your photographer will know how to optimize your photos and get the most from your album.
