is it unreasonable to send out my STD's one year to the date?
sorry if this is long but i need you opinions badly. i told my mom this morning that i ordered my STD's yesterday and plan on sending out in July and she had a fit telling me that I'm doing everything so fast. omg i wanted to bolt out of the house
she said people will think i'm crazy when they see this in their mailbox when the wedding is still one year away. i explained to her that i'm sending them out a little earlier because this wkend i found out that three of FH's 2nd cousins are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary next july and I'm afraid they might plan a party on the night of our wedding and then what??? still she thought it was way too soon - i told her i'm paying for them and most of this wedding so I'm doing what i want. but do u guys agree with me or see her point that it might be a little too early?

i dont think so......i gave mine with my favors for the engagement party which was more than a year and a half b4 the wedding. i did magnets so people could just put them on the fridge and dont have to worry about losing a paper STD or card.

Yes I agree with you! I am sending mine out 1 year from my wedding also! We are paying for about 90 percent of our wedding too so we can do what we want! Not to mention it's YOUR day so you do it the way you want to!! Also you are getting married around the 4th of July when there are many parties, just like I am getting married on labor day weekend so I think we really needto send them out a year before so people know not to make other plans

I do not think it is early at all. Especially if you know that their are other things that are going on that month... I would send them out.

I personally think it's a bit early. I'll be getting married in May and we plan on sending them out in October, this way it's somewhat fresh in their mind.JMO.

It is definitely not to soon to send them out one year before. My mom actually cut out this article for me yesterday and I have it one my desk. I quote,' New Wedding Etiquette? Save the date Crads. They should be sent out a year in advance so guests can make plans, asnd then invites go out two and a half months before your date.'

Re: is it unreasonable to send out my STD's one year to the date?
I think you should send them out a yr in advance. My cousin is getting married in July - and we just got his save the date cards - 6 mths before (his wedding is July 29th) But considering that you know of three ppl that are celebrating their anniversary that week, and that it the first week of summer vacations for the little ones that go to public school - so Im sure alot of vacations are planned for that week. I would send them 1 yr in advance ... it will ensure ppl not making plans - that is a very popular week to go away (esp since the 4th of July is right before)

I sent mine out in January and my wedding isn't until next June. Everyone loved them! Plus mine is kind of a holiday weekend so I didn't want anyone to plan anything either. I think it's fine.

I am planning on doing it around a year in advance. I reserved rooms at 2 places and at one of them, if you don't book all of the rooms you reserved, you are out the $$.

I definitely don't think that it's too early especially since you're getting married on 7/7/07. There are going to be a ton of weddings on that date so you want to 'stake your claim' now.

Exactly... not only is there going to be a ton of weddings... it is the weekend after 4th of July which means lots of ppl go on Vacation... I plan on sending mine out the first week in July of 06.

Re: is it unreasonable to send out my STD's one year to the date?
IMO-I think its good. I sent mine out a year in advance. Its to tell people to 'save the date' your supposed to give them out way in advance, I think. I dont think you send them close to the wedding, I mean the invitations go out 2 months in advance.

I just sent mine out. Almost 11 months to the date. I would have had them out earlier but I was waiting for FH to get me his addresses.I think one year to the date is perfect!!

Re: is it unreasonable to send out my STD's one year to the date?
First off 7-7-07 is one of the most popular days of next years weddings.... I think that times have changed and that this has become the norm. When I informed the Family that we'll be using them as Favors for the e-party then mail them out in Nov. I had the same reaction. Once I explained why it's important, they understood. ( I have an Aunt who hasn't set the date yet, & 2 cousin'd who's BF's are about to ask at any moment (neither of them know)

I have the same exact plan, actually I originally wanted to send them out in January 2006. My mom doesn't think their neccessary at all, but after I reminded her that it's a holiday weekend she reluctanly agree and told me that I should wait until July. She thinks that people in Poland with have no idea what this is, but I plan to print them in Polish, so that should be clear and to the point and if people are still confused, then that's their problem. At least people in the US will know what to do with the STD.

Re: is it unreasonable to send out my STD's one year to the date?
I AM WITH YOU. I JUST ORDERED MINE. AND I AM NOT GETTING MARRIED UNTIL NOV. OF NEXT YEAR. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS KEEP ASKING ME ANYWAY IF I SET A DATE YET. AND I ORDERED THE MAG'S THEY CAN JUST THROW THEM ON THE FRIDGE. PLUS I LIKE TO PLAN IN ADVANCE FOR THINGS AND IF I HAD TO TRAVEL WITCH A LOT OF MY FAMILY DOES DON'T YOU WANT TO KNOW TO TAKE OFF FROM WORK? THAT'S JUST MY OPINION. I SAY SEND THEM.

You're right, Mom is wrong. You're getting married the week of a holiday - standard procedure for 'special dates' like ours (I'm day after Thanksgiving) is 1 yr in advance.
