What is Hand Cancelling

So it's finally that time... I am mailing out my invitations on Monday. However, I have no idea what or how to do it. Do I buy stamps in advance? Do I go to the post office and they will help me with the whole process?

Totally lost here... any help would be appreciated!

Re: What is Hand Cancelling

i went to the post office with one of the invites that was all put together with the response cards, direction cards, etc... and asked them to weigh it to see how much postage i needed ( .60 or .80 or whatever). i bought all the stamps i needed, went home and put one on each invite, and took them back to the post office the next day to be mailed. i just handed them to the guy behind the counter.
'cancelling' is the mark that goes on the stamp so that it can't be used again. usually a machine does this. ' hand cancelling' is when either you or the post office person does the cancelling by hand, so that the invites don't go through a machine and its supposed to keep them a little nicer.
BUT... hand cancelling isn't really nessary because the invites still have to go through several sorting machines to get where they are going anyway, so it doesn't really save all that much 'abuse'......to me, i think brides have more important things to stress over....

Re: What is Hand Cancelling

the usual going rate for invites is 63 cents....thanks to the rate increase...if they are really huge or have a ton of things in them, then i'd take one to the post office to be sure...but make sure you have them all in early enough to do so. for the most part, they are 63 though.
