NWR:Getting a new puppy today
OK, this was NOT my idea, FH is a dog person, has had dogs all his life. We had one when we lived in NY but had to give him up when we moved to PA due to our work schedules. Now that I finished my Masters and have a little more free time he decides to get a dog. I am not thrilled with this, as I am happy w/out extra responsibilities....
He's coming home with him today. A male bullmastiff 8 weeks old.......I know I'm going to LOVE this dog but I am really dreading it backfiring somehow......
Had to share ladies....thanks for listening! Will post pics when he gets home.

Wow, I feel compelled to share this with you, after about 3 months of living together, FH surprized me with a puppy.... I was stil in school full time, & working full time & our 1st apt, was really small. I wasn't thrilled at first..... I grew to love Morgan ( that was his name)... however, Fh & I had to give Morgan away ( theapt. we were living in didn't allow dogs) Morgan now lives on a horse farm in NJ for harness racing horses, he has a great life, but giving way our puppy was definitly the hardest thing we've gone through as a couple...  Maybe you & FH should discuss this more to make sure that this is the right time for you too to get this addition to your family...
We are now(over 2 1/2 yrs later) proud puppy parents to 2 dogs, (Sydney - a mal-tzu) & (Petey a Jack Russell) they are our children, an dI'm thrilled that we have them... FH & I discussed briefly about getting a pup, then when we saw Sydney we had to have her, and then 2 months later the same thing happened w/ our Petey.

Discussing it any further is out of the question at this point. He knows how I feel. He is probably on his way home right now with the puppy. It was hard for me to give my other dog up, I loved him very much and I guess I am a little scared for this one not to work out. But now I'm stuck so I'll just have to deal with it and do the best that I can....Thanks for sharing your story!!!

Fh wants a bull mastiff as well...we definately do not have the room for one so we got a bull dog. So much work, but I wouldn't trade her for the world! good luck I wanna see pictures!

You are going to fall in love with the puppy.. Keep in mind, if you have a small place, bull mastiffs grow up to be very big.. but who cares, he's going to be a delicious little monster when he comes home!! be prepared for teething.. make sure you get a chew toy that you can put in the freezer for when he starts teething.. it's soothing to their gums..
FH and I had a puppy 2 years ago, a mini pinscher and I wasn't able to keep him in my apartment so FH took him back to his father's house.. He ended up having to give the puppy away bc his father couldn't keep him with the other dogs in the house.. but thankfully the dog went to a home with another mini pinscher and is living well..
We now have a 4lb chihuahua named Chico Sanchez who is like our child!!!

FH went ot pet plus 2 weeks ago and got about 100 bucks worth of chew toys!!! He's pretty prepared...lol

If I could have a monster dog, I totally would!! and I love the mastiff breed.. They are like big mushy mush dogs!! My mom wants a French Mastiff as her next dog.. like the one from Turner and Hooch!! Once I buy a house I am going to get a bigger dog..

OMG!!! What a face!!!! He is adorable!!
But I do understand your anxiety. Getting a new puppy can be a lot like having a new baby. I remember when I first got Daisy (my Bischon) the first couple of weeks were brutal! She would stay up all night crying! And then with work I couldn't be with her during the day. Luckily, I still live home and my mom and grandma really took care of her during the day.
But in your case, I think the dog will get used to being on it's own during the day if that's how you start him out. I know (from friends and family) the the woman ends up with most of the responsibility, but they are just so lovable, that after a while, you tend to foget about the work. In the end, it is all worth it. Especially when they snuggle up next to you on the couch after a long hard day at work and look at you like there is no body better!!!
