well first let me start with the things that I say when a friend tells me she is getting married:
AHH!
CONGRATS!
HOW EXCITING!!

And here is what was said to me when I shared my date and location (jericho Terrace, 01/12/08) or just the fact that I was engaged

OMG JANUARY! Aren't you scared it is going to snow? I could never handle that!

OH I UNDERSTAND - January because it is cheap then?

WHY WOULD YOU HAVE IT IN THE WINTER? The summer is so much nicer! What if it snows?

If I come - I am going to wear a snowsuit because what if it snows?

Why are you having it at JT - I heard (any other hall) is SO MUCH BETTER

My daugther/son/hairdresser got married at (NOT JT) and they loved it - maybe you should go there instead?

Why are you waiting so long?

IT's about TIME you guys got engaged - it was getting ridiculous!

I thought he would NEVER ask - how did you wait so long!

ETC! ETC! ETC!

*Just thought I would post this and see if anyone else has any good ones - it is healthier to laugh at them instead of getting mad - and I have some good answers to them now!

For example:
WHY Jericho Terrace?
-OH they decided to give us the wedding for free since we are such a cute couple

What if it snows?
-What if it rains in April? What if it is 100 degrees in August? Somehow I think we will manage , . . .

Why are you waiting so long to get married?
-Well, we were trying to save money BUT since you think that we shouldn't wait - YOU are welcome to pay for the wedding - THANKS!

PS - i only say these IN MY HEAD he he not out loud. . .YET!

Everyone has something to say. A friend called me yelling at me because i didn't call her as soon as it happened. Sorry that it had happened on Christmas Eve, and i wasn't going to call people on Christmas to tell them. So before i can make phone calls the day after Christmas, i get an e-mail telling me off. Theres always someone trying to rain on the parade. Make the decisions you want (and maybe your fh ) and that's all that matters!

The first thing one of my closest friends did after she found out I was engaged was go to another mutual friend of ours and tell him how SHE would design HER OWN engagement ring and how she wanted a 2.5ct stone, etc. etc. WELL EXCUUUUUSE ME! 1) sorry for being too in love that I didn't want to wait until I was 45 just to afford a huge rock and 2) you kind of have to have a serious boyfriend first! UGH. I get angry just thinking about it.

I've found out in the past 10 months I've been engaged that EVERYONE has an opinion and most aren't afraid to share it with you.

The worst part I felt though was that time right after your engagement, the when/where question.

We've had friends get engaged after us and I've made sure just to leave it at congratulations.

ETA: A friend of ours who's been married for a few years was talking with me and another friend who was engaged recently and she said after the wedding it immediately changes to when are you having kids and opinions about that.

When i told people i was having a summer wedding, they already started telling me how i am going to HAVE TO wear my hair and what kind of dresses my bridesmaids HAVE TO wear. And of course we got the 'wow, thats more than 2 years away. Why so long?' mind ur business!

As far as the time frame they don't understand that it cost $$$$$ to get married and we have to save.

This is the funniest post because I have gotten all of these questions.
The why so long? question I get everyday. Why does it matter how long I wait. Are you that anxious to go to a wedding? I love when you first get engaged and people say you can't get married here, or you can't get married during this month because this is going on. Really???? I can do whatever I want. People really should mind their own business! :)

Great topic ladies!!! I've gotten all of these silly questions too. Now when people say things like OMG ! You have to.....I reply with There's only two things in this world I HAVE to do- 1) Pay Taxes and 2) Die!!!

i just remembered a very good one:

'OH, that ring must be the new style because I have seen so many girls with that exact ring!'

and this was from someone i was considering putting in my BP - needless to say, not anymore!

btw- in case you are wondering. . .i have never seen another girl with my exact ring, although I am sure they are out there. . . I like to pretend they don't exist!

hah - some girl at work heard from the grapevine that i got engaged and she walks over to me and says 'lemme see it'. no congrats no nothing! i was very offended. she's a such a bitter b!tch!

UGGGHHHH!!! girls!! such bitches sometimes. just be happy dammit. i'm glad we are all happy on here. because it feels GREAT!! everyday i'm like walking on clouds!!!

It's so true! Girls can really be nasty! Even if I'm not really friends with someone I am still happy if I find out that they got engaged. Some girls are very bitter and just want to say anything to ruin your moment.

I'm in a wacko mood, but here are some responses I'd try..................

OH I UNDERSTAND - January because it is cheap then? Say: If it's so cheap to you, you can have the bill. (I always think that people who say that your month is cheap are under the impression that you are doing the whole wedding for like 8K or something).
