REPOST: Just when I thought.........(update w/ pic)

everything was going smooth, DH was rushed to the hospital on Friday night.

We went for a ride to Ocean Beach on Friday evening with our new boat and my sister and DH brother. We were only there for about an hour and a half and decided to leave. DH jumped off the boat to tie up the lines (boat wouldn't start) and when he leaped he missed the dock (because there were no lights on) and hurt his leg. We were rushed to the Island by the Sufoflk County Police boat where an ambulance was waiting in East Islip. When he got to the ER he was is so much pain....he was complaining about his upper leg and stated he heard something 'snap' when he fell.

He went in for x-ray and they found his femur (biggest bone in the bodder - upper thigh) broken in two different places. He was scheduled for surgery. We arrived at the ER at 11:30 on Friday night and went up to the OR Saturday morning at 11:30. I have never seen DH cry and scream in agganoy before and I never want to see it again. It was the worst

DH was in the Recovery Room at about 2pm. They put a metal rod and scews in his leg through an insision in the hip and knee.

He was supposed to stay until Tuesday, but he was released today because he is young and his process is doing well.

He will be out of work for 2 - 3 months; no walking, no driving. It takes about 4-6 months before his leg is completely healed. He gets the staples out of his leg in 12 days. For now we're just taking it one day at a time.

DH needs hugs!!

UPDATE

DH is in a lot of pain....we go to the orthopedic surgeon, who performed his operation, this afternoon to look at the staples in his leg and make sure there are no infections.

***Like things couldn't get any worse. DH brother was at his cousins bachelor party on Saturday night and a fight broke out in the bar. My BIL got punched in the face and sent to the ground were he was getting kicked. He ended up in the ER at Good Sam. Yesterday he had surgery to correct his broken jaw - he had to have his jaw wired shut for 2 weeks. My poor MIL!!!

My good friend had both of his femur bones replaced by rods (he had bone cancer) and he leads a completely normal life, although he likes to joke that they get rusted, squeak, etc.. It took him about 2 months to recover fully and start walking around but he had both done at the same time.

So sorry to hear of his injury ,but the docs are right! He is young and will heal. He just has to be patient and let it happen.

I know what this is like. My brother broke his femur in half playing kill the carrier. Just be supportive, buy him treats to keep him feeling better!!

I had broken my humerous in 2 places (the 2nd strongest bone in the body) last year, so I understand the pain... Send him my best........
