Looking for an apartment?

Hi,
For all of you gals who are going to rent an apartment with your FH (who doesnt have an aparement yet) when should you start looking. basically me and my FH are living with our parents...when should I start looking for a place to live?

Me and my FI live together now but I think the best thing to do is for you and your FI too start putting away at least $500 a month each to see if you if you can pay rent and not spend it on wedding stuff, if money is not a problem then just put it away for the future. And for the Apartment start looking asap just to see what is out there. Maybe you will something you like and take it maybe not, but right now you are in no rush and you will get a great idea of whats out there.

well being that we are in the same boat AND we are getting married on the same date (yay twin!)

I wanted to let you know that FH and I already started looking for apartments. The deal is he will move out first and I will come after we are married- keeping the tradition going hth!

Hey twiny!!!

Funny cuz I was thinking the same thing. Actually, we both live in the bronx right, like I said earlier, with our parents. He is quitting his job here soon and applying for a job upstate..he will live up there in his parents house until he can save up some money and then move into a house or apartment...the house may happen if his parents sell their house here in the bronx and give us a down payment for a house upstate, but that is yet to be seen. But I think he will move up there first (even tho he will be living with his parents) and then we will start looking for a place to live. I am looking for apts and houses now..but when should we actually purchase or rent one?

Ok im going to be very vague with you but I think youll know where im getting at.... have in mind that it takes approximately 3 months to close and by the time you settle in fix up your home- id say to start looking by january- most importantly see where youre at financially and then make a decision!

My wedding is in April and we just signed a lease for an apt yesterday. It is not available unitl Nov 22 - so if was a good thing we started looking early.

Well I dont live in LI I live in the Bronx and I plan on moving upstate

we are in the same situation.

we are looking for a house though- so we started now, we want to be in contract by January and close by march, do any renovations necessary so we can live in it by july. he would probably move in first, and than me after we get married.

Since its so hard to find a good place, I would start looking now if I were you.. Youre better off safe than sorry. FH & I are in the last steps of buying a house, and our wedding isnt for another 10 months!!! And I wont be moving in until after we're married. It gives FH time to fix up the master bedroom/ bath so that once we're married we have a nice place! That, and it gives us the peace of mind knowing that we wont be homeless after our wedding!

I thought maybe it was too early for me to look for an apt, but I guess Im not alone. I actually start looking a few months after we got engaged lol..I thought I was getting a little ahead of myself, but guess not.
