Re: Can MOB wear black?
Personally, I don't like either Mom in black. I find it kind of disrespectful - like they're in mourning or something. I just think it sends a bad signal to other people. JMO!!!

Re: Can MOB wear black?
My entire wedding party plus both mothers are in black. I wanted a black and white wedding. I don't find it disrespectful at all. It is your wedding do what you want!!!My wedding is a Sat night formal affair and that is the ambiance that I wanted so it fit well.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
I think it depends on the dress. If she is wearing a funeral dress (all black, sort of plain) then I dont think its particularily fitting. But if its a black evening gown that shows a little skin or is beaded - I think it looks lovely.
In NYC - black is high fashion and never goes out of style.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
I feel like at times I pick and choose when to use old fashioned etiquette rules, but Emily Post etiquette says that neither Mom should wear black b/c it shows a 'disapproving MIL.' But, again, take the etiquette with a grain of salt. If your Mom really wants to wear black and you and your FI are okay with it, then go for it. Otherwise, how about navy or dark green or cranberry - they are dark, slimming colors.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
I totally think she can wear black. I told my mom she could (my mom is a young looking, sexy mom and loves black) but she knew how old-fashioned people would be and was afraid what people would say esp. my traditional in-laws. Edited to say my mom wound up getting a dark plum..almost eggplant. Pretty dark...in some light looked close to black.Honestly, I think the best dress a mother could wear is one that makes her feel pretty and comfortable!

Re: Can MOB wear black?
My MIL wore a black dress to our wedding and I think she looked elegant. Plus it had some kind of shiny embroidery that made it look even better.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
All the moms and grandmas are wearing black to my wedding. I think it's a classy, fancy color that looks good on mostly everyone. If your mom wants to wear black and you think it's ok then let her.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
My mom wore a black dress with red. I think she looked gorgeous. A lot of people wear black to weddings. There's nothing wrong with it.What turns my stomach is when someone wears white to a funeral.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
I don't think wearing black is disrespectful! Black is elegant and classy, especially if it is a beaded and stylish gown. As far as looking funeralish, would someone really attend a funeral in a black beaded gown? Now that is disrespectful! As long as the style is flattering and appropriate the color does not matter. This is New York in the year 2002! Wearing black to anything is like our god given right!

Re: Can MOB wear black?
I may not be the best person to ask, but I LOVE black. It is my favorite color next to off white. (I know I have contrasting tastes).During a Sat night affair, it will be beautiful!!!

Re: Can MOB wear black?
My brother's wedding was black and white, so all the BMs were in black as well as both mothers. It looked very formal and elegant. I think as long as it's not a 'boring' gown (my mother had beading on hers) it is fine.

I think a black dress is very elegant. People feel more comfortable in black because its slimming.

why not wear black. The only rules you should follow are the one you and your FH set.

Re: Can MOB wear black?
My mom wore black to my sisters wedding, and she never looked more beautiful. I think it has more to do with the style. If mom is wearing a black polyesther turtleneck gown with a pair of flats I'd say it was funeral like. If she's wearing an off the shoulder sheath like my mom wore, it's very elegant. Also, black evening suits with satin or organza, or another dressy material come off elegant as well. Also, get her a really bright corsage or nosegay...makes all the difference!Welcome New Vendors
