restaurants in garden city/hempstead

hi there gals-
starting to work on a welcoming/christening party for Julianne...
Ceremony to be performed by the Monsigneur who performed our wedding ceremony...and a Cantor.
To be held at St Thomas Church in West Hempstead

Any suggestions for a restaurant in the area where we can feed about 30-40 people REASONABLY?

So far, 7th st cafe was suggested as was Lucky Duck , market grill and Pompeii restaurants. Pompeii has nothing avail on our date, Lucky Duck didnt pick up when I called around noonish today...and 7th st cafe and Market grill are running about $35 pp and that is the most reasonable menu they have. ( At this rate it is going to cost us $1100 for the restaurant- and that's if just 30 people come- argh!)

I'm looking for a nice place, can be buffet style, can be a pizza/restaurant combo or one of the nicer China Buffet types of places....

Need help!

Re: restaurants in garden city/hempstead

What about St James Pub/Grill in Mineola? (right across from the train station on second st) They have a back room for parties, although I have no idea on the cost.

You could also try BK Sweeney's in Garden City, but they may be a little more expensive than St James.

Also try Davenport Press in Mineola- my shower was there.

Also, Filomena's in Franklin Square- GREAT Italian. Right on Hempstead Turnpike.

Or, Plattdeutsche Park Restaurant. Had rehearsal dinner there... was very inexpensive... and good!

I second the St. James in Mineola. We love it there. And they do have a nice back room to use.

Re: restaurants in garden city/hempstead

I had my RD at the Orchid, I thought chinese food was a unique idea - for 30 people they give you a private room, also I have eaten at the Lucky Duck, it is great. Lastly, I know it's not very elegant, but my family has held several parties in the back room at the Macaroni grill, that is probably the least expenive of all. good luck!

WOW it's like you just read my mind........My husband and I are expecting in April. We are looking into doing a welcoming ceremony with a priest and rabbi. What is yours going to entail.......we were married by a monseignor and cantor as well maybe they would do it..........What is going to be included in the ceremony?
Do you still live in Long Beach? We are in Rockaway. Forum mail if you do not want to post..........

Re: restaurants in garden city/hempstead

Hmmm ...

Lucky Duck is where my rehearsal dinner was and they did a great job!!! You have to call them after 3!

King Umbertos ... on Hempstead Tpke ... my shower was there and EVERYONE raved about the food!!! Check that out too!

Pompei is suppose to be nice, but you already got that recommendation.

If I can think of more ... I'll post!

Re: restaurants in garden city/hempstead

My old neighborhood!

Yes, try Lucky Duck again. My mom's favorite!

I second Cira's King Umberto recommend wholeheartedly.

We recently went to a b-day party at Ecco on Jericho Tpke in Garden City. Very good food-Italian-and nice private room. Not sure of the $$$.

It's been a while since I've been there, but I remember Jonathan's on Jericho Tpke as being nice. I can't remember if they had a private party room.

A little further, on Union Tpke in New Hyde Park is Fratelli Iavarone Cafe (in the Lake Success shopping center). Another excellent Italian restaurant.

Hope this gives you some ideas!
