Cruise to Canada

I'm going on a cruise that leaves out of New York Harbor going up to St. John in Canada. Has anyone been there? What is there to do and what is the weather like?

DON'T DO IT.

I took this cruise a few years ago. It was f*cking cold. And ALL old people. There is nothing in St John except fridge magnets & gas for the ship. We sat in our room most of the time. Or at the bar. and the drinks are incredibly expensive. It was a 4 day cruise & I had a $700 bar tab.

we went the first week of October. I thought "oh, we'll see the leaves change. What a crock. You are not traveling close enough to shore to see sh!t. All you'll see is old people in wheelchairs.

Does your ship stop in Halifax as well? THAT was the only good day. St John was a waste.

Re: Cruise to Canada

Ok DH and I went on this cruise too last summer (late July) for DH's grandma's 85th birthday--all his aunts and uncles and a bunch of cousins were there too (we're talking 40 people) so of course we had a great time. DH's grandma has family in Nova Scotia.

That being said, we had a good day in St John, but we went on a Kayak excursion in the morning, which took pretty much the whole morning and included a lobster bake lunch, which was FABULOUS. We had a lot of fun doing that. Once we got back from the excursion we walked around St John shopping areas for about an hour, and that was plenty. I would definitely look to do an excursion there because an hour or two is plenty of time to see the area downtown and shop. The weather there was ok, not great. It was cold and cloudy in the morning, but then it got sunnier later on.

If you are doing Halifax also, we didn't do an excursion there but we left the boat later on in the day. We went to the Citadel which was cool but HOT and lots of stairs (we walked there). We also walked down the boardwalk (I forget what it's called) and that was ok, we went out to lunch somewhere....generally there was a lot of walking. The weather was better, sunny and hotter.

On the deck of the ship while we were sailing it was COLD and FOGGY most of the time. The days at sea it was almost always too cold to wear just a bathing suit on the top deck! We did have fun though Feel free to FM if you have any more specific questions!!

Re: Cruise to Canada

I went on that cruise about 7 or 8 years ago. We went around this time of the year and the weather was really nice. Truthfully, there wasn't whole lot to do on shore, but Nova Scotia was beautiful-- def go on the excursion to Peggys Cove if they still offer it. I was partying pretty hard back then, so i didn't get to go on land very much being that I got up so late, but that was worth it.

No we are not stopping in Halifax, only St. John.
