What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
I was just thinking of what I'll wear to a Black Tie optional wedding and I was wondering: what is the dress code going to be at everyone's wedding?Ours is going to be 'wedding casual' I guess. Is there a name for that? How do I convey that on the invitation? I really want people to put on their most comfortable Dockers (for the men) and sundresses (for the women) but I guess that's partly because it's a day time wedding and partly because I'm not a fancy dress up type of girl. If they want to dress up they can, but I totally don't expect it.

Mine is going to be formal ... I am not shelling out all this $$$$$ so that people come in jeans (which I have seen before!)

I've seen the jeans before too! Was like WHOA! I'm not going to specify anything on the invite, but I just hope people come looking nice. It's a daytime wedding so I'm not expecting fancy schmancy but no jeans please!

(On men, who don't know any better, I guess. But never on women) That's too funny!

i didnt indicate a dress code either. I trusted my guests to dress properly. Its a saturday evening so most people know to get dressed up. Thing is i dont like all guys in tuxes, i like to see different types of suits and colorful shirts with the suits and ties too. Also i believe that a woman can still look very dressed up in a nice cocktail dress and didnt want women to feel they had to wear long dresses, or go out to buy one if they didnt have.
For our e-party everybody came really dressed up so i figured i had no worries.
at our wedding just about everybody came dressed very nicely and appropriate. I would say 99% of the guests, i had one person whom i thought was real dressed down, not even a dress but sort of tights with this baby doll type shirt lol. But it was one person and doesnt really effect the overall look or anything you even care about the day of. The way i saw it is if someone shows up dressed like an idiot then theyre just making a fool of themselves not me

Yeah I agree. I just want the guys in suits, they dont even have to wear ties! And the girls in dresses, they dont have to be long, becauseI dont have any long dreses, and short dresses look just as nice as long ones do.

Re: What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
Mine is going to be semi-formal (guys should wear suits, girls should wear nice pantsuits, dresses, etc.). I don't know if it is called semi-formal on the invite, I guess the person who does our invites would know!

Re: What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
Well..I think people go by when and where you have it...for instance...usually a day wedding is less formal obviously..unless of course you specify. Also..saturday nights tend to be more formal than friday nights...i will go search google...cuz y the hell not...lol

Re: What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
A Black Tie invitation calls for formal attire. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.Formal usually means the same as Black Tie, but in some trendier cities like New York or Los Angeles, it could mean a black shirt, no tie with a tux. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.
A White Tie or Ultra-formal invitation requires men wear full dress, with white tie, vest, shirt. Women wear long gowns.
A Black Tie Optional or Black Tie Invited gives you the option of wearing a tuxedo or formal dress, but it should clue you into the formality of the event, meaning a dark suit and tie would be your other option. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.
Creative Black Tie leaves room for trendy interpretations of formal wear. He can go more modern with a tux -- maybe a black shirt, no tie. She wears long or short dresses or evening separates.
Cocktail Attire means short, elegant dresses for her and dark suits for him.
Informal is often interpreted as the same as Casual but it actually calls for the same dress as Semi-Formal -- dark suits for him, short dresses for her -- especially when associated with a wedding or special event.
Festive Attire is usually seen around the holidays, with the mood of the party being Informal or Semi-Formal. For her, it means to choose looks with a bit of sparkle or holiday bent
Dressy Casual calls for dressed-up versions of casual looks. For him, it could be trousers and a sportcoat, for her a dressy pants look. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts and other casual looks are not appropriate for Dressy Casual.
Casual generally means anything goes

our is black tie...be careful with casual...be specific b/c people might show up in whatever they feel like it. If you dont say what you want you know theres always a few guests that dont know how to dress

AWESOME! Thanks! I'm in the middle of dressy casual and casual.
I told my dad he could just wear a shirt and tie and he was like, no jacket?!? That's too casual.

I want an ultra formal wedding but I don't want to force people to wear Tuxedos - I actually prefer guys in suits.

Re: What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
I did a website because we have a lot of OOT guests and I noted cocktail attire. I didn't put it on my invitation. I assume most people will wear cocktail attire at least to a Sat Night wedding in the Winter.

Re: What's the dress code going to be for your wedding?
I guess mine is cocktail? I've never seen any type of dress code on an invite other than 'black tie'. Do you have to put a dress code if it's not black tie?
