Where to try on Plus Size Gowns?

Hi,

I was wondering if any of the 'plus sized' brides here could help me.. I'm one of the larger plus sized brides (24-26) and I was wondering what shops on Long Island might actually have dresses that I can try on.

My biggest fear is the humiliation of walking into a place, and them laughing at me when I need to try on a size 24-26 dress. And then just having to point at something in a book, pay for it, wait for it to come, the whole time wondering if it would be okay..

If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know.

I went to Estelle's and Davids Bridal and they have dresses in all sizes for you to try on : ).

Lillette's in Baldwin has a GREAT selection!! That's where a couple of us + size brides got there dress.

I got mine at Davids. I am a plus size. I found the perfect dress for a bigger girl. The price was good too.

One of my girlfriends is a 24 and she was able to try on many gowns at David's Bridal. FM me if you need locations. She went to the one in Carle Place.

I tried on gowns at Adriennes in Islip, but I am a smaller size. I did try on gowns that were bigger though. I would definitly call them before going.

I would find out some designers that make plus size gowns, Paloma Blanca Diva line, is one of them, that make the gowns only in plus sizes, not the regular dresses that come in 2 to 26.

Also Davids Bridal was great, even if only to get an idea of what type of dress you want.

It should not matter if you are a plus size or not. I am a plus size and when I went gown shopping, I was able to try everything on even though it was not my size. But if you really want to try on just plus sizes, I know that Lynbrook Bridal Center in Lynbrook carries plus sizes. I got my gown from Valentina's in Brooklyn.

I had the same fears as you and I went to David's Bridal and I tried on about 12 dresses and there were still tons more that I could have tried on!
I bought my dress from them but I got my alterations elsewhere.

Good Luck....and ENJOY the trying on! I was scared but ended up having loads of fun!! Go during the week, during the day if you want to have time and not be rushed!

I don't know where you are coming from, but Bridal Suite in Patchogue has a whole room of plus size dresses. I know what you mean about being humiliated, so believe me try Bridal Suite in Patchogue.
