There is a hotel with a Japanese name (near Union Square, perhaps?) that's also very nice.

The Marriott in Fisherman's Wharf was gorgeous!! We stayed there about 2 years ago, but we used Marriott Reward Points so I am not sure how much it would cost.

I third the Fairmont - it looked beautiful. The Sir Francis Drake Hotel looked nice too - the Starlight Room is at the top of that hotel...we went there for OVER PRICED drinks - but it was a cool (albeit, touristy) thing to do & see.We stayed at the Hotel Vintage Court, on Bush St in Union Sq. Was a cute hotel - nothing fancy - more of a boutique-type hotel, small bathroom but very clean and close to everything we were interested in seeing and getting to...they served wine in the lobby every night for about an hour, which was cool.

Re: Hotel in San Francisco - for Honeymoon
I love SF.I ran a conference @ the Fairmont- the rooms are AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL... AND their Tiki bar in the lower level is GREAT!!!!
I'm not a HUGE fan of the Wharf- sort of ick- good to have lunch & see the Seals.
I have stayed at the Hyatt Embarcadero a LOT- but I'd stick with the Fairmont- you can take the trolly there & everything.

Re: Hotel in San Francisco - for Honeymoon
Fairmont is very nice. It's on top of Nob Hill, so it's a hike if you dare to walk. But you can always take the cable car or a taxi!another more low-key suggestion: my FH & I stayed at a smaller boutique hotel, The Nob Hill Lambourne, in March 02. www.nobhilllambourne.com
we loved this place! The room was pretty good size with kitchenette area/fridge, nice size bathroom, robes. They leave tea and vitamins on your pillow at night. Sounds weird, but they are very into wellness concept (also offer spa services here). But it wasn't so strange that it turned off my very straight-laced FH.
They have a lovely free continental breakfast in the lobby/living room area in the morning and free wine/cheese and crackers at night. The staff was great--knew our names, arranged rental car for us, got us more wine if bottle ran out. We met a SF 49'ners football player and his wife in the lobby during wine/cheese hour.
Have a great time!!!

Check out Four Sisters Inns - www.foursisters.comI stayed in their B&Bs in Carmel and in Napa - they were great and could be great - very intimate - for a honeymoon. I think they have inns in SF too.

Re: Hotel in San Francisco - for Honeymoon
SF is GREAT!I stayed at a nice hotel - the Maxwell in Union square. I also stayed in the Villa Florence, also in Union Square area.
Villa Florence I got a great deal for a nice suite-type room - spacious, etc.
Both were in the middle of everything - would recommend either.
I'd also suggest a side trip to Monterey if you can. The Aquarium is wonderful (sea otters are sooo cute) and its a beautiful place.
Have Fun!!!
