Re: NWR: Where is a good place to live on LI?

Depends on if you need to commute into Manhattan...I grew up in Manhasset - it's beautiful there (but crazy expensive now) as are many of the towns with a quick commute. I love Garden City, Stewart Manor, parts of Port Washington. My sisters live in Huntington - that's a great town as well - lots of nice restaurants/bars/shopping in town. But a little long train ride into the city.

Re: NWR: Where is a good place to live on LI?

Massapequa is not too far from the city on the south shore. Here's a good map that gives you a feel in terms of the Long Island Rail Road and towns along the way.

LIRR map on Long Island

Re: NWR: Where is a good place to live on LI?

We're looking to buy in LI too. It's hard because everyone has different opinions and not being from LI myself, I'm not sure who to believe. We've been looking in plainview, Massapequa and East Meadow. We like north shore but it's too expensive, whatever we could afford needs way too much work.

Thank you very much. If i get the job in LI, i have an interview this wednesday for a place in LI, then it won't be bad. I am just worried if I have to commute into the city. I am used to long commutes since i live in queens and used to commute to work in jersey but i also don't want to have as long of a commute again. I am sure it would be less regardless

Re: NWR: Where is a good place to live on LI?

I'd pick the Commack, Kings Park & Smithtown area Everything close by, and Sunken Meadow Pkwy right there to quickly take you to whatever other pkwy you need..

I now live in DH's neck of the woods which is Glen Cove, but I am not used to it yet - only been there 4 months... not fond of how far off the LIE it is though.. at least 20 mins north off LIE on a 1 lane road on 107... nevermind when there's traffic!

YES!!!!! i think its so much harder for us since we don't live in LI. Everyone likes certain neighborhoods for different reasons, and what somebody might like about a neighborhood well i might not. Not that its bad or anything like that but we all just have different preferences as to where we live and things we look for in a neighborhood. It's so confusing at times bc i look at listings and i see certain neighborhoods but have no idea about them. Now I do go to LI alot, have friends in LI and used to go out to places in LI all the time, so some neighborhoods i am VERY familiar with but some others i am just clueless to them.

well Ive been looking for months so honestly i have to take a job ASAP, with the economy now I don't have the luxury of being real picky. If i get a job offer in the city then i have to take it bc i cant afford to risk not taking it and maybe taking a long time until i find another job. I dont mind commuting, my old commute was 2 hours so if its an hour or under then that is awesome to me lol. I am used to taking public transportation so its ok with me. Also, ive taken the LIRR into LI before from the city and some parts were not bad at all, i remember one time it took me about 30-40 mins which would be perfect
