Re: Pearls - Bad Luck???
Definitely an old school myth. They used to say it many years ago, and in fact it was against all rules to give pearls as a gift. I wonder if any of the younger women have heard of it.

Are you latin? or to be more exact Cuban?I am Cuban, and in our culture, yes pearls are considered 'bad luck', actually the saying is for every pearl the bride wears that is a tear she will shed in her marriage'
Hope it helps

My FMIL has a super-amazing diamond necklace i will wear instead, but it was driving me crazy. This is the same thing I heard. I was planning to have pearls too, but then heard this and being my FH is half PR, I decided against it. Even if he doesn't care.

I am Irish and was told that I cant wear pearls on my wedding day. And you are not supposed to get them as a gift. My Aunt freaked out when I told her I wanted to wear my grandmothers pearls.

Re: Pearls - Bad Luck???
I heard that if someone gives you pearls as a gift, you have to give them money so you don't get bad luck.. even if it's 1.00.. my moh's mother always tells me this myth

Re: Pearls - Bad Luck???
My Irish grandmother almost died when my other grandmother gave me pearls for Christmas one year. She calls them pearls of sadness. I'll have to tell her the penny thing. I alwayd wondered where this idea came from. Thanks girls!

Re: Pearls - Bad Luck???
Funny, my mom who is VERY traditional (she is flipping because I don't plan to wear the blusher veil) didn't know that. She gave me these beautful pearl and emerald earrings that were hers, she wants me to be married in them. And I thought I'd coordinate with a pearl necklace- on bridal jewelry websites there are always pearl necklaces.Wonder if the superstition applies to faux pearls as well?

Re: Pearls - Bad Luck???
Does it matter if they are real or not? My dress is covered in pearl beading but it's fake obviously. I never heard this before and I am Mexican. My mom has bought me pearl everything too.Welcome New Vendors
