rosary beads

Does anyone know the saying if you want good weather the day of your wedding to hang rosary beads outs side your window? When are you supposed to do this?

Re: rosary beads

My mom always used to do this

She was Irish, but I am not sure if it is an Irish tradition, or something she just picked up somewhere in her family.

Re: rosary beads

We put the blessed Mother outside 3 weeks before our wedding in order to have a beautiful day, and we did.

I haven't heard of the rosary beads though.

Re: rosary beads

My stepmother's version was that you put the blessed mother in the window, but I'm sure that they always did a statue not a rosary, but it's the same idea I suppose. It's all superstition anyway.

Re: rosary beads

My DOC said to put them in the window a week before you get married to ward off rain. I put mine there the day she told me - I figured I could use all the help I could get!

Re: rosary beads

That or the Blessed Mother in your window.

My FMIL told me about a Jewish tradition of putting a knife, fork and spoon in your garden too!

RE:rosary beads

I’m from Nova Scotia and where I come from it’s tradition to put rosary beads on the clothesline if you want good weather. The day of my wedding it was supposed to rain- it did a little in the morning. When it came time for the wedding all around us everywhere there were rain clouds in the distance. Relatives who drove from an hour away  said they drove through rain just before. It never rained on us and we were outside. At the reception every aunt and my mom told me they had all put rosaries out. I know it’s superstitious but I loved that they all did that. It was so sweet and made me feel like they were all part of my day.
