Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or wrapped in clear ?

Has anyone heard of this?
I really dont want to spend 3 hours opening gifts at my shower.. I want to mingle !

MOB and MOG are horrified at the idea and think the guests will be too. What do you think? Tacky?

I really want to win this one lol! I was hoping to figure out a cute way of doing this.. maybe a poem insert to put in the invitation or something?

Basically i think its boring to open gifts and everyone attending knows what was on your registry!
I am willing to open the cards and hold the gifts up as usual, i just dont want to waste more time unwrapping!

TIA!

ETA: I think its odd that people find sparing your guests from boredom rude !

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

.Not to offend anyone who has done this but I think it is incredibly tacky. It remindes me of when you are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to a toy drive.

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

I heard of someone writing on the shower invites - 'Be a dear- wrap it clear!'

I thought that was cute.

I think as a guest I wouldn't think too much of it thought I might find it annohying since then you can't just get it wrapped by the store.

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

we did this at my friend's shower... I think the wording used on the invites was 'be a dear, wrap in clear'

she still did the whole thing reading the cards and checking out the gifts...and if i remember right, she did unwrap some....but there were a few that she just read the card, looked at and said thank you and passed along

i didn't think it was tacky at all, her gifts all looked really nice & she still went thru the whole process...but my mom wasn't the biggest fan of the idea so i can see why your mom and FMIL are putting up a fight, old school i guess lol

to be honest tho, it really didnt save much time since she still did the whole traditional going thru each & every gift

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

Sorry to be tacky - but I did open gifts and did the typical shower bingo - it was fun and only took 30 min and I had 60+ guests. My bridal party was very organized. I know that people were groaning when they heard they were opening gifts - but same people approached me and said they couldn't believe how fast it went - so not tacky IMO

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

I have been to showers where you wrap things in clear. I don't see the point if you are going to sit and go through the gifts anyway. However I did have a friend who for her bridal and baby shower had every thing wrapped in clear. Instead of going through the gifts she had people come in and do an activity. For her bridal shower she had someone do a salsa dancing lesson with everyone and for her baby shower she had some teach everyone how to decorate cupcakes. It was so much fun and got everyone involved!

As far as it being tacky, I went to a shower where the bride had on the invites cash/gift cards only and had no registries. I thought that was pretty tacky. She was a winner alright...
So no, I don't think its tacky at all!

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

I live in FL but my shower and wedding are both in NY.

I'm requesting that all gifts be sent to my house and am asking my mom to tell people to just print out a picture of what they got me.

i dont want to spend hours opening gifts either. I think that's only fun for the bride, but everyone else seriously wants to get it done and over with.

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

i 100% recommend the clear wrap. It is the greatest thing ever at showers. I will be kinda upset if people don't do clear wrap for my shower and I actually get annoyed when other people don't do clear wrap nowadays at their showers. My grandmother didn't like the idea the first time she saw it, but now she loves it too.

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

I'm going to a friend's shower in a couple of weeks. Her invitation says: 'Help us save the planet - no wrapping please!'

Honestly, as a guest, I prefer being spared the agony of watching the bride open gifts. How many times can I ooh and ahh at washcloths and bedding?

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

i think its a great idea!

i couldnt decide in time on it so im not doing it but kinda wish i had

everyone knows that brides know what gifts they are getting bc of registry stalking

I do not think its tacky at all

if you want to b able to mingle and dont care about the whole 'unwrapping gifts' thing then do it!

your guests will be thankful like thos above mentioned that they dont have to sit through an hour or 2 of you opening gift after gift

My momma wanted me to do this since I'm moving to FL a few weeks after the wedding and it would be easier to just buy everything down there, but I was afraid it would seem rude... like 'Gimme yo money people!'

and to weigh in on the topic, I think clear is fine... it's your shower so you should do as you please. Not tacky at all in my opinion

(also, I've noticed all the old people are quite resistant to going against tradidion, so don't mind them... they'll come around )

From all my experiences it is expected that the bride open her gifts at the shower... I have honestly never been to one where they didn't..

Re: Shower Gifts: Unwrapped or in wrapped in clear ?

I'm not a fan of the clear concept I went to a shower that did that and it took the fun away so I personally do not like it and it is kinda tacky
