Re: What does HOLLOW OUT THE HEM mean??

hollow to hem....

They measure you from a certain in the neck region to the floor with your shoes on...its usually done before they rder the dress and on dresses that have scalloped edge bottoms or LOTs of dteail bec they really cant be hemmed....HTH xo

Re: What does HOLLOW OUT THE HEM mean??

I think you mean - hollow to hem

Hollow to hem means to measure from the 'hollow of the neck' to the hem. It for those of us who are vertically challenged (I'm 5'0') so we don't lose any beading or detail at the bottom of our dresses.

Re: What does HOLLOW OUT THE HEM mean??

I'm having a hollow to hem done because my gown has A LOT of detailing and I'm only 4'11'.

They measure you from your 'hollow,' which is the point on your body where your neck and chest meet (i.e. the middle of your collar bone) to your 'hem,' the bottom of the dress. But in order to do this, you need your shoes, so they know exactly where the hem is.

I had to buy shoes before ordering my gown, so they'd know exactly how tall I'll be. The good thing is, when the gown comes in, there shouldn't have to be any hemming done during the alteration phase. The bad thing......my hollow to hem costs more than my alteration cap alone! So I had to pay extra for it, and then I'll have to pay for other alterations when the gown comes in.

Re: What does HOLLOW OUT THE HEM mean??

WOW!! Thanks for that info guys!!

OK... so I'm 5 ft 8.... I do have scalloped edges but they didn't do this for me. I'm also wearing high heals. OMG I'm going to be a GIANT!!! Haha.. thank god FH is about 6 ft 5!!!

They ordered the hem lace seperate... so the bottom of my front is straight then they have to add the hem lace onto it so i still have the scalloped edge on the bottom in the front too. I'm probably removing it from the top of my dress though.
