NWR: Apt hunting, mahattan and surrounding areas
I have a friend that will be starting work in midtown manhattan (in the 50s) in June. She is looking for an apt that might be 1/2 hour commute, no more than $1300, with a partime doorman.
Any ideas of neighborhoods, actual buidlings, whatever, would be great.

www.craigslist.org - great resource.
If she will be working in Midtown she should look in Astoria or LIC - she will be at work in 25 mintues and have way more square footage than if she was in Manhattan.
If she wanted to be in the city she should look in Hell's Kitchen - very up and coming and getting trendy/pricey but still somewhat affordable. She could get a studio for $1300.
Also, upper east (way east though to be affordable) and upper, upper west in the 100's)
