For those of you that have moved off of Long Island...
What town did you move to, in what state?
What about that town made it the place you felt you could move to?
Did you honestly find the adjustment very hard?
DH and I are considering building a home in the Carolinas or Georgia in a year or two. I would love some info from people who have done this already!

I'm doing it as we speak...will be a Georgia peach in about 2 weeks!! 
I have visited many, many times over the past 5 years (my family lives there) and I really love it.
What town did you move to, in what state?
We're moving to a suburb in Metro Atlanta, Georgia (about 25 miles away from Fulton County, where ATL is)
What about that town made it the place you felt you could move to?
My family lives there...it's very similar to LI...near everything...close to our new jobs with an easy commute.
Did you honestly find the adjustment very hard?
I can't answer this yet. I'm sure it won't be easy, but I can't imagine DH and I will be too sad in our new home. We get to actually have a family...something very much close to impossible here!! 
It's the hardest decision we ever had to make...I wish you and your DH much luck!!

looks like there is a growing trend on this topic!!
like my DH said the other day... we don't mind paying more to live in NY which we all know is desirable. but not 8-10x more! 
Sasha, your house is my DREAM home and would cost $2M on LI!!

There are tons of posts on this topic here and on LIF. It seems that young couples ARE leaving because LI/NYC is too expensive.
