I used my femininity and asked very very very nicely "Pretty please may I hand cancel them myself?" They gave me a bin and a stamp and I did it myself.

I have heard brides that did the hand cancelling themselves but I am sure it is fine Kathleen. Don't worry - are you invites very delicate? Everything will be fine!

Hand cancelling prevents your invitations from getting stuck and destroyed in a postal machine.
#1 Hand cancelling
#2 Machine cancelling
IMO hand cancelling looks nicer. I had a winter wedding and I didnt want snowmen all over my invites.

I did it myself, but I wouldnt worry! too me a really short amount of time too- 20 minutes maybe for 140 invites

Every Post Office might be different. If they said they would do it, they will. Relax - don't stress over this detail. Your guests will receive their invites & they will be blown away by their elegance!

this is what happened with my first batch (i sent our families first, and then our friends a day later bc i needed more hotel cards). the first batch i had in a box and they put them to the side. the second batch she did in front of me and i cringed as she stamped the crooked lol. i didnt think about asking if i could do it myself. i wouldnt worry though, i am sure they stamped them soon after you left. ~lacey

Kath- I wouldn't worry about it. When I dropped mine off I said "will they be hand cancelled" and the lady said yes. She then put the box to the side. And they were. I sent one to myself so I saw it.
BTW, I have been in the PO at other times and seen the postal clerk on the side (not taking customers) hand canceling invites. I'm sure they do it when it's slow.
