It's funny because when you think of a "wedding in a tent" it doesn't sound very "romantic" nor "extravagant" at all but I'm beginning to realize now that it might be a wee bit too romantic and extravagant for my budget
I'll let you all know what FH thinks when I speak to him... he's the one with the job. I'm just a poor college student with dreams

Well see... I'm not the outdoorsy type at all. I just love the atmosphere that the tents create... does that make any sense? lol
If we have an outdoor wedding then I'd be WAY too concerned about weather. Plus, I hate walking on grass... weird but I do.
I'm a big punk lol.
You know what.. I might just use the pillow-like roof liners used in tents, have it attached to the ceiling of a ballroom... use custom lighting and just create the atmosphere I'm looking for that way!
That might be the solution if the tent thing is too expensive.

That's part of my concern. Even though there are lots of country clubs, vineyards, mansions and estates in the area, I'm unsure of how much they'd charge to use their grounds and to cater.
I'll be making lots of calls this week

I think I have heard that tented weddings are much more expensive...but I think if you want to do it....
Go for it!!!
However, I agree with the weather comment (I would be terrified) AND by ordering a dance floor to cover the whole area you are looking at major $$$$$$.

I second the bridgeview yacht club idea. Their ballroom is gorgeous...has the pillow tented ceilings already and is reasonably priced!!

...and ya it probably will cost a lot more to have the ground completely covered with plywood

I initially wanted a tented wedding.
I was going to do a small tent for the ceremony and a large tent for the wedding. But that was insanely expensive. So I decided on a ceremony tent - just 4 poles and a top and a large tent. Still to expensive.
My final quote was for a tent that would hold 10 tables with 8-10 people per table and a dance floor that would hold 40-50 people. There had to be enough room for a bar and a 'buffet'.
The cost was about 8000 with the liner. If you are having more than my 75 people, the cost will be even higher. That was without tables and chairs. That was BEFORE I asked them to put down flooring.
I was going to do it at my house, but the best price I could get pp for catering was $140/pp - including all liquor, soda and cocktail hour, food and staff. It wasn't bad. I considered doing a tent at a place, but on top of paying for the tent I had to pay a site fee of 2000-7000. 
I ultimately couldn't afford it.
BUT it is gorgeous and unique and if you have the money I would say to ABSOLUTELY go for it.

I am getting married at the Bourne Mansion in Oakdale and they do tented weddings and it would be exactly as you described....however they dont do outdoor ceremonies they only allow the ceremony inside the mansion....
The caterer is Lessing's @ Bourne and they would make the food for the entire event....I dont think you would have to pay for chairs/tables/dishes/flatware/stemware because they supply this for the wedding in the ballroom...
The only thing you would have to pay for is the lighting and floral arrangements...the tent would come with the hard wood floor....plus the mansion has bathrooms....As far as AC...the tent company provides this as well (and heat, weather depending) Try new york tent company....
It has a HUGE GINORMOUS lush green lawn that overlooks the Great South Bay...
This is def. a place that you should look into....go to www.lessings.com

I went to see the Bourne Mansion last Sept., it was my #1 choice, until we saw the bathroom sit. and went outside. The grass was yellow and dry, I asked them who was in charge of the lawn, he said that the school grounds crew was and they have little control of how it is maintained. But he did say they had been calling the crew to try to resolve the problem...

Wow! 8K for that amount of people is way more than I expected  My family is really big so our guest list (draft) is around 200-250ppl!
I'll still call the NY Tent Co... is that who you contacted?

Yes, that helps a lot! I'm so glad to hear that they DO do tented receptions and would likely provide the things needed (chairs, etc.).
You make it sound so pretty! I can't wait to make an appointment with them! Let's hope it doesn't cost TOO much... but this all sounds really good!

I actually contacted them also. For the 30x60 Navi Trac and liner (only) it was 2700. That was without lighting or flooring or a dance floor. The dance floor was an additional 400. I believe lighting and safety was an additional 500. The floor was about 1800 more. So the total was around 5600. The 8000 quote was for a tent similar to their Anchor New Century.

Wow! Thanks a lot for the quotes! I spoke to FH about it and he's down but after begging him to do some research and to figure out his top 5 reception halls, he likes the Crescent Beach Club and Gurney's Inn the most!
That's fine with me... but when we both get back to NY, we'll visit our top 10 including Bourne to figure out finally what we wanna do
