 I love it! I can't believe that I've never heard of this place! I love the whole "3 day wedding" thing! AND roundtrip tickets?! It kinda sounds too good to be true 
I'm wondering now what their maximum # of guests is... I can't find the info on the site. Anyone have any clue?
I'll try to post the pics I liked from the site... for those interested in tents. I'm obsessed!

 It's not looking too good. I've contacted 4 halls about using their grounds and they either don't have the space for it or just don't allow it.
...I've still got my fingers crossed that I can find a venue.... and that it won't be too

I am getting married at Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport. Not the one in Oakdale. There is a not a inside there only a tent. I would check it out because it is beautiful. There is no grass to walk on and if it rains the walk ways and everything can be teneted as well. It is more expensive though.

I totally looked into this b/c my dad has a huge flat backyard...
I needed:
200 person tent w/lining, lighting, heaters & generators
raised flooring
cocktail tent
tent over rented bathrooms incase it rained
I got an estimate from NY tent for $30,000 not including food!! My food estimates were around $40,000 from oven lovin which included all food and table & linen rentals and glasses and utensils.
I thought that for $70,000 before flowers, band, bathrooms, etc was WAY TOOO MUCH! But it sure would have been beautiful!

You're kidding right? 30K!? I was hoping it'd be around 10K the most! 
... in that case, we'll get the tent w/ accessories, no food, no tables, no chairs, no guests... just the tent I'm shocked!!!

I had inquired at the Vanderbilt in Centerport, and they only do tented events, which was never really a thought in my head.
However, for many reasons I went, and they were def up there with a lot of the catering halls with just wanting to use the grounds. Then there was everything else i.e. the tables/chair rentals, food, alcohol, everything that came in the price of a regular hall.
This is JMO and my findings, some might be different.

My mom volunteers with the gardening and decorating at the VM. They have a website where you can get the # for Carol directly or if you live in the area stop by I know shes there pretty regular "office" hours

As far using the grounds and renting the tent, when I contacted Lessings it was def up there!

i've got pics of NYBG in my album and the cost per person for 5/2007 was like $225/pp. catered by abigail kirsch though but i think when it's all said and done it's probably more like $250/pp... really expensive

I just wanted to offer my support & encouragement while you are in beginning stages of your planning. Much like you, when we first decided on a tented wedding we received some less than constructive advice & opinions. I am so glad that we did not take any negativity and nay-saying to heart.
