AHHH! Freaking out with caterers!! (kinda long)

okay - i started planning this wedding about 4 weeks ago. so we were limited on time and locations regarding where we would be having the reception. we decided to do a city wedding (which was always my dream).

i went to see three places in the city (hotels) for the reception. my mom was partial to one location b/c supposedly she knows someone who knows someone etc. anyway, seemed like they were giving us a decent deal. we would be getting the appetizers, salad, entree, cake, and chair covers.

they said that we'd be getting the package deal - all the stuff above - for one price per person. to make it easy, a package deal is essentially what you get at every long island catering hall as standard (cocktail hour, dinner, cake usually).

anyway, i decided to go with this place b/c the lady was nice, the room was nice, and it seemed like they would take good care of us. then slowly little things would start coming up. first she said that i would be able to get the cake OR the chair covers. fine - not a problem, i chose the cake and ordered my own chair covers. next, she said that i wouldn't be able to choose 6 passed hors doerves i would only be able to choose 4 AND only have two stations (veggies and cold cuts ). okay, i said what can i do.

NOW, i've been trying to go in for the tasting and menu selection for over week. i wanted to go in today b/c it's the best day for me with my school schedule. the bm finally gets back to me today and says i can't go in for a tasting today but maybe next week. HUH?? NEXT WEEK??!! the wedding is next saturday!!!

i asked her won't that be too close to choose the menu. she says no b/c the menu is already chosen. WHAT??!!! what do you mean the menu is already chosen? she told me that they picked the menu for us. what the He**ll?!! i've never heard of such a thing. then she said that my mom picked the menu - which i know is impossible and a complete lie. i gave her an earful. then the lady with whom we signed the contract called me saying that i got the package deal so the menu is chosen. i gave her an earful too considering that none of this was ever discussed or even in OUR contract. but somehow they say that it is in their contract.

now i gotta wait for someone to send me menu. aaahhh. i really don't need this aggravation right now!!!

this is my first bridezilla moment - i really got bridezilla with them. but i just can't believe all the stuff they are trying to pull!!!

i wish there was something i could say or do to make it better.

i know what you're going through, my wedding fell apart the week before.

i would be tough with them. it is YOUR money and YOUR wedding

WOW!!!! That's terrible!

Have you talked to your mom about what they are doing to you? Maybe the person who she knows can talk to the person who is doing your catering and see if they can make this better ?

They PICKED your menu for you!?!??!?!

Oh man. Let me tell you. As a picky eater, I'd freak out.

If it's not in your contract, then I would demand to speak to the supervisor's, supervisor's supervisor.

Thats ABSURD. They can't do that. Stay firm!!!

yes - i told my mom about it. she also called them and started going momzilla on them.

also, like you said, i'm am a waaaaaay PICKY eater as well, which is partly why i'm livid that they would do such a thing.

i really just hope that everyone sorts itself out. this is certainly not something that i think i should have to be dealing with.

Oh man!! I couldn't imagine someone doing that for you!!! You tell them you will pull out if they don't see that you get everything you were promised!!

I would kill, no way someone should pick your menu out even if its a close time. its not like u didn't take interest in the matter. they should be more accomodating.

This is absolutely wack. I'm so sorry. I'd say go in person, and bring backup.

It is YOUR DAY. It is YOUR MONEY. They need to understand that.
