Re: Legally changing names

When you go to SS bring your marriage license and I would recommend bring a valid driver's license and your old SS card. It was very quick and painless, then when you go to DMV bring your SS in your new name, again very quick and painless. Good Luck.

p.s. Only original marriage licenses will do.

Re: Legally changing names

I did the DMV first... All you need to show them is your old licence and the ORIGINAL marriage certificate...then I went to SS and gave them my new temp card and my old licenc eand the ORIGNAL licence...They do not keep it they just want to see it....

Re: Legally changing names

How many copies of my marriage certificate should I order? Do these places need to keep copies, or just need to see them?

Re: Legally changing names

any one chose differnet names on different documents?

I was thinking about hyphenating on my SS card (just to have something that has my maidan name)...but will that cause problems with taxes and my employer?

Re: Legally changing names

How do you change your name with the credit card companies? Can you do it over the phone or do you have to mail them stuff?

Re: Legally changing names

Erica - I think the key is to be consistent. Especially with heightened security everywhere, ID should all match.

My friend just ran into a problem when she traveled b/c her license was never changed.

When I have a minute to go to SSA, I'm going to flip my maiden name to become my middle name (I currently don't have one) Hopefully this will be an easy task! I've read some complaints about trying to do this at DMV - I'm NOT looking forward to going there

Nov bride - usually there's info on the back of your bills - you'll probably have to mail in a copy of one of your documents.
