Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

Over on the 08 board we are discussing whether to get "fake" wedding ring sets for the HM or to wear the real ones.

Could you post what you did -

and if you left the real in a safe, and wore all the time - oh and if you went to a place with a beach and wore rings in water...etc!

TIA!!!

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I wore my real rings all the time, even in the pool.
In the pool we were just lazing about, drinking mimosas, so nothing really would have knocked my rings off my finger. Even then, they fit pretty good and don't slip off so easily.

If I were to have gone swimming in the ocean or trekking somewhere, I would have left my rings in the room safe.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

My daughter & her husband left their good rings at home in their safe. They bought inexpensive plain wedding bands and took them on the honeymoon. They had heard stories of rings getting lost, etc.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I did not bring my engagement ring with me on the HM. I wore my wedding band only... and it's just plain gold, no stones, so it wouldn't be worth much (financially) if it was stolen or lost...DH also wore his band, but again, just plain gold.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

we went to Disney on our HM.. i wore my real rings.. didnt do any pools.

BUT.. if you wanted to wear your real rings and you were to go in pools, beaches etc.. i always take my rubber band for my hair and tie it around my finger in front of my rings.. no way will they come off!! works really well !!

I wore both my real rings all the time even in the pool. The only time I left my e-ring in the room was when we went snorkling in the ocean but I still wore my wedding band.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

i left them both home..
i didnt want to have the headache of being paranoid about leaving them in the room or them slipping off for some reason... I knew we would be doing lots of excersuions and spending a lot of time in the water so i found no point to bring them.

Normally, when I'm home, I never wear my rings to the beach anyways so I wouldnt do it overseas as well..

If you are travelling in the US then I would bring them.. But keep in mind that the bling is not the norm for most cultures so you may be attractive for those pick pocketers in other countries..

we got engaged in italy and i didnt even wear my ring til we were home in the US.. My own family that we were visitng told me not to wear the ring out!!

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I wore my rings. IMHO- what's the point of having real rings if you aren't going to wear them You could've saved your FH tons of money by telling him you only wanted to wear Sterling Silver.

So, unless its an irreplacable family heirloom, just wear what you have, it will be safe in the safe if you don't want to wear it all over.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

We didn't get fake ones.

We brought the real ones with us on our HM. The room had its own private safe with a code you set yourself. When we were going to be by the pool, we left the rings in there. Otherwise, we wore them the rest of the time.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

well to begin, I think it all depends on where you are going, and what you will be doing.

we heard such horror stories about cruise safes (we went to aruba for a week then 1 week on a cruise) that we decided that i would leave my rings home. so i got a fake set. I left the "fake set" all over the hotel room, and all over our room on the cruise. LOL i used to leave it a drinking glass on the vanity when I wasn't wearing it.

I don't want to say I regret not bringing it, but I totally could have. The cruise was really safe as was the hotel in aruba. But I would have been so upset if I would have lost it, or it was stolen. like really upset, so in end I'm glad i didn't.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I had a fake E ring to Bring but changed my mind l8r.
We had insurance on all of it so I decided to bring the real deal.

What I did do , was wear my wedding band the whole time and leave my E ring in the safe and took it out only for dinner.

I felt much more comfortable doing that esp w/all that suntan lotion and sand.. etc..

Most of the Brides I had met on my HM were l@@king fwd to seeing my ring when we met them for dinner b/c they saw me not wearing it and new I had it away in the safe.. I have to admit It was funn to show off l8r!

I brought my real rings with me on the honeymoon. I wore them both in the water and did everything with them. They stayed on my finger the entire time.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I bought a fake set and took it on the HM with me, but I never wore it. I kept my real rings on all the time, even when in the pool and on the beach. Waste of money in my eyes.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I bought a fake set that looked exactly like my real one. I have been on a lot of cruises before the one for my honeymoon and every time I heard of someone who had their rings stolen or they got lost. One couple got robbed on an island and they took all of their money and jewelry. My rings are insured, but I would be heartbroken if I lost my engagement ring or wedding band. If the fake set got lost during those two weeks, oh well. To me the $40 I spent on the fake set was well worth it. No one else knew they were fake and it was only for the trip. I loved not having to worry about the rings. I knew they were safe at home. DH also has a tungsten ring in addition to his regular wedding band which has diamonds in it. He wore the tungsten one on the honeymoon and wears it to work in the city.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

We bought a fakie -because we were really afraid of loosing it- but honestly if it fits pretty good and you are pretty confident that its not going to go anywhere on your vacation then by all means wear the real one- however if you get nervous like i did Id say go for the fakie- its really not that big of a deal and I NEVER bring my engagement ring with me on vacations....

almost everyone I know wore their real rings. I just wouldnt take them off at any point-whether there was a safe or not, Im paranoid about leaving them somewhere, but taking them with me I wouldnt be so worried. I wear them now all the time, in the pool. to the beach. everywhere.

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I wore mine the whole time and was in the water constantly. Both my e-ring and wedding band was fitted so there was no problems with them slipping off.

I agree with some of the other girls....why not wear them? If they are the proper fit, water or not they should stay on and you shouldn't have to give a second thought about them slipping off. Also, I was way to excited to wear my wedding ring then to just put in on for 1 day to then take it off for 2 weeks! That just seems silly to me.....JMO!

Re: Can you lovely ladies help us 08 girls out?

I would wear your real rings, they are sentimental and I don't see any reason not to wear them on your honeymoon, but everyone does things different. We went to St Lucia and Jamaica and both had our real rings on the entire time other then sleeping and taking a shower. I did buy my husband a really cool second wedding band for him to wear at work only, as he works outside sometimes and we didn't want the real one to get destroyed. There is no right or wrong answer to your question, just do what you feel more comfortable doing. Best of luck
