Re: How do I ...
Social Security first. Take your marriage license. Once you get your card, go to DMV. Even before you get your new SS card (but after you've applied), change your credit cards, bank accounts, insurance policies, 401 K accounts, deeds, loan accounts etc. You can do many changes over the phone. Banks and insurance companies will require you to fill out forms and sign. I also got a discount from my car insurance company for being married even though DH has a different ins company.

Re: How do I ...
It is too much work for someone with little free time. I have done very little so far!
I went to SS during lunch and it was pretty painless. All you need to do is fill out a form and bring you marriage license. DMV is next but it has been too cold for me to walk over there (in the city)! Passport is pretty easy. Can get the form over the internet and send in passport, form and marriage license and they will change it and send it back. I am awaiting my second copy of my marriage license so I do not have to send in the original. Then do all your credit cards and stuff (most can be done in mail or over the phone). I wouldn't change any of those until you get new photo id (sometimes when you use a new cc - they ask for photo id).
I opened a new bank account with just my marriage license and got the new checks and stuff and then changed everything at work, payroll, 401k, life insurance, etc. Still haven't closed the account in my maiden name because I am still getting checks from people (and cc) in my maiden name.

Re: How do I ...
How long after your wedding date does it take for your barriage certificate to come back? I'm afraid that if I put off all these things for too long, I'll just get lazy.
The woman at the NY County Clerk said that I should get a "blue copy" in the mail, within 2 weeks from my wedding date and then I use that to change my name.

Re: How do I ...
I never got any blue copy ... just the paper saying Marriage Certificate with raised seal on it. It came like 3 weeks after the wedding. I've had to make a ton of copies for everyone!! What a pain!!

Re: How do I ...
Christine....this is TOTALLY unrelated to your actual post topic, but I am LMAO here in my kitchen b/c the title of your post made me hear Leann Rimes belting out...."How do I live without you....I want to know...How do I breathe without you...if you ever go...."
I know, I am a total GOOFBALL, but that's what the title made me think of! LOL!
ps- personally, I prefer Trisha Yearwood's version of that song....not that it matters....okay, I'll stop now...LOL!
