NWR: So Frustrated, and Need Advice

So FH and I spent last night moving some more shower gifts in to the apartment and doing some more shelf-papering (STILL not done, ridiculous).

For being such a large kitchen with such a crazy amount of storage, the stove is miniscule. And OLD. Literally from the 60's. Radiant coils. And small....one of those mini stoves, like 2 feet wide, and even though there's 4 burners, you'll never be able to have more than 2 pots/pans going at a time.

So we were a little leery of it, so we made sure to bring our pyrex, lasagna pan, broiler pan, etc. to test if it would fit. There was already a broiler pan in it, but we had our own, and I didn't want to use someone else's pan, ew.

So our pyrex fit fine, it's small. Our lasagna pan fit BARELY, because it has handles that are welded up, not on a hinge to lay flat. It worked better vertically than horizontally.

But our broiler didn't fit at all! Too long, so had to be angled in on a diagonal, and then the door wouldn't shut. It's a 16" x 14" I think, and we're so upset. Now we have to find a smaller pan somewhere, and I'm not sure if BBB or the grocery store would have one small enough to fit. And forget our cookie sheets, they're even bigger than the broiler, so definitely not going to work

If we were the type to live off of takeout, it wouldn't be a big deal, but we're really big in to cooking, so this is definitely upsetting for us. Are there any other girls who currently have or had had a stove/oven of this size, and how did you make it work? Lots of small batches? Cook a little less than anticipated?

Is there room to put in a modern stove? I'd try to negotiate something with the landlord if there is, that's a little ridiculous.

If there's not room maybe they make new stoves that measure the same but have more oven capacity? That's annoying though, good luck!

would you consider maybe asking the landlord to go 50/50 on a new one? I would ask them before returning any of my things, see what they say and take it from there.

I am pretty postive you can find small pots and pans for that type of stove...I found some under Toaster Oven Bakeware...can;'t hurt to look

Well, the space that the oven is in is what it is. Even if we were to replace the oven with a more modern one, it would still have to be that size. And we were told if it were to break during our tenancy, we would be able to pick out the new appliance, and get reimbursed for it and have it be taken off our next months rent as well. Which would be cool to be able to upgrade to something more modern, but still going to be 2 feet wide. It's workable if we can find the proper pans to fit, just frustrating because we planned on making really big pans of casseroles a few times a week so we wouldn't have to cook every night after work.

That size stove is very typical with apt living. There are plenty of baking items out there that will fit. I would start at BBB and also I bought a small cookie sheet at IKEA

I have a small broiler pan from BBB. It's a non stick kind and literally like small enough to fit in a toaster oven. Let me see if I can find the link. Ah, found it.

I can fit a nice size steak on here. When cooking for two, this is perfect.

I used to have a small oven in my old apt, but didn't do much broiling (or much cooking). I got pans from BBB. If you really want to make a lot for the week, I'd suggest just getting two and using both.

pampered chef has small pans for the toaster oven, which should fit perfectly.

do you need a broiler pan??? i have never used mine, and i cook ALOT

I had an apartment that had one of those small stoves. It was annoying. I feel your pain. I also had a small refrigerator. It stunk!
