Did anyone get stiffed ...

Out of a gift at their Wedding?

Here is the problem. The couple gave me a check, it bounced and I redeposited it back to the bank, it bounced again. The couple called me (a guess they were a bit embarassed) told me not to redeposit it a third time and instead would send me cash through the mail. It's been a month and I still haven't received anything and I am a bit worried it got crossed/lost in the mail. Do I even bother calling them about it or should I just forget about the entire thing?

Now I am thinking ahead. Do I even send them a Thank You card? What would you do?

The ladies on here know how much this bothered me also!

I did not even receive an EMPTY card from these stiffers.
And the sad part is i KNOW I never will either!

We didn't get a gift from at least two people. But I'm not gettting upset about it - some things are just out of my control.
I will send a TY not mentioning a gift, maybe they'll realise they forgot - but to me it's just not that big a deal

My advice would be to send a card thanking them for sharing the day and not mention the gift, etc

Jenn - sorry this bothers you. For all the things that do bother me (and trust me I have a lot of peeves) sometimes I just know when to let things go

Helen I let it go, when I spoke to one lately, I never mentioned it nor would I ever.
But since we can discuss on here, I can let out any leftover anger I have on it and release it all.

I had two couples not give at all. We just received a case of wine from one of them this weekend 10 months after the wedding. My husband dropped everything saturday night to calm them down because their daughter was late coming home from a movie. I guess this woman finally realized that they never acknowledged us. Who knows!

I just don't understand this way of thinking with the guests. Even if someone is Broke, how about a CARD? It's like they come to party at your expense w/no real sentiment.

I would just let it go. We had a few people not even give us a card. We also had people say they would come and not show up.One person has still not called to apologize for him and his guest not showing up.We found out through another friend that he didn't come because he had a fight with his date.

I would still send a thank you to be nice. Just thnak them for sharing in your special day....

We sent thank you cards to people who didn't give gifts.We just thanked them for being there.

We have not gotten gifts from some people also. However, I have been told that there is some ettiquette rule out there that people have one year from your wedding date to send a gift...

Just wait and see. I have gotten 3 more gifts in the past week.

Jen..it's MayDay...not me that posted.

But, we also have 2 instances that are pretty inexplicable right now. One has been worked out (a little embarrassing, FMIL called the person out on it thinking that the envelope was lost...it wasn't lost..they didn't bring a gift ) and the other we just can't figure out and think that the envelope really was lost.

We got sooo stiffed at the wedding it was unreal.

From people that were there 3 of my dh's coworkers didnt give a gift, one of his friends from his childhood and one of my friends bounced her check and never fixed it.

Then we had about about 11 people who didnt show up after responding yes and never send a dime. The maddest I was though was at one of my moms supposedly close friends. She has been friends with her for years so I seated them at the family table cause I have a very small family and they never showed. On top of that, I invited only the husband and wife and when I received the response back it said 3...they added their 23 year old daughter who they bring everywhere without even asking me. So to be nice, I just let it be and then they never showed up!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, they live on my block and I See them all the time and they never even offered an explanation as to why they didnt come. Suffice it to say, when I see them now, I give the worst looks and dont talk to them at all. It was just so WRONG!!!!!!

I got a bounced check DH called the guy (his friend) to let him know he said some BS about switching banks long story short we never got a gift from him. We heard he has done this to others before for their wedding gifts, no I guess it was no surprise. The kicked was that it ended up costing US $$$ because of the fines incurred when attempting to deposit a bounced check! We never even speak to this person anymore, they avoid us now!

I was stiffed by two people too.....I did not send thankyou cards b/c they didn't even bother to give me a card.

We didn't get a gift from two of DH's co workers - one even asked DH when we got home from our HM if there was anything left on our registry that we wanted. Nothing ever came though....

And we had a bounced check, too. We redeposited, but it bounced again. She never said anything and I feel too bad to call her.

None of these people got/are getting Thank Yous.

I am so glad none of our checks bounced. I was not even thinking of that until one day someone was talking about it on the board.

I got no gift from a few people- and worse, some people didn't show up and never sent a card either. I would drop this issue, it is obvious that this couple is having a financial problem.

We're sending wedding announcements with pics to everyone, including those who couldn't come. Those that give gifts will have a thank you included, anyone who doesn't won't receive a thank you. That way they'll know we didn't recieve it if it got lost or they forget.

I got stiffed by one couple... it was a guy that I worked with and his guest. But a few weeks after the wedding, he was laid off so I guess that's DONE! NovemberSue - you are very kind! I never sent him a thank you. Although it would be a good reminder to him! Doubt it!

I got stiffed by my FIL, not even a card and to boot he had us invite all these friends of his who said no after the response date, by then it was too late to invite people we would have preferred to.

Another one who got stiffed here!!!

One check bounced. And one couple, who canceled the day before the wedding, didn't send a card or a gift. She is my cousin for heaven's sake!!! She's notorious for doing stuff like that, too. I don't ever want to invite her to anything again! She said she'd come to my engagement party, and never showed up. She said she would come to the bridal shower, no show again. Then canceled the day before the wedding with no card or anything! Some people!!!!!

It's not even about the money. I'm not like that. It's the PRINCIPLE!!!!!
