Long Island Wedding Story #244

Submitted by Debi Lapp, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Engaged August 26, 2006
Wedding On June 21, 2008

We got engaged on August 26, 2006. I had picked out the ring previously, so it was not a complete surprise. My ring has a 3/8 almost flawless master cut diamond surrounded by 86 smaller diamonds in a stunning pave design with a heart and swirls carved into the side when you flip it over.

My boyfriend told me to ask off of work this one day in August because he wanted to take me away for the weekend, so I figured it was going to happen then. I had a spa day and got my hair done and dolphins painted on my nails. I also bought a new dress and even bought some wedding magizines to take along.

Then Fred told me that he had to testify in a court case the day we were planning to leave for our trip. This is true!! The judge would not let him get out of it even though he told him he was proposing that day and it would mean changing our reservations. Can you believe that? To make matters worse it was in a different state 5-6 hours away.

Luckily, he was able to change the plans with no problem. He gave me a white rose (my favorite) every day for four days before we left.

We ended up staying at the Castle in the Sand Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland, which really does look like a Castle and is right on the beach. There was a gorgeous arrangement of hot pink stargazer lilies and red roses in my room along with a bottle of champagne. There was also a card from Fred saying how much he loves me.

The hotel sent up a card with the champagne that said, "Congratulations on your engagement!" When I read it, Fred was absolutely mortified. Apparently, his parents had asked to buy us champagne and the hotel told them that they would be happy to give us a bottle on them. The card was supposed to read, "Have a nice weekend! Love, Mom and Dad". We pretended I never saw the card for the rest of the evening.

Then he took me to a gourmet restaurant overlooking the Bay called Fager's Island. It was very tropical inside. I had a wonderful steak dinner, but Fred would not let me have dessert.

Afterwards he dragged me onto the beach at sunset, got down on one knee, and pulled out the ring box. Someone started clapping in the background. Then he said, "Debi, I love you so much! You are the sweetest girl in the world!" I cannot imagine living a day in my life without you. Would you be my wife? Will you marry me?"

Of course I said "YES!!!" Right afterwards we got this nice lady to take some gorgeous pics of us with the ocean in the background. Then we celebrated with champagne on my balcony overlooking the sea. I started crying as it finally hit me.

Then we went to Seacrets Nightclub for dessert and dancing. The next day we lounged on the beach and had food and drinks brought out to us. Then we shopped for souvenirs on the boardwalk. The last day we went mini-golfing and to a shripwreck museum. When we got home we went to a baseball game.

It was an amazing weekend and Fred gave me the most romantic proposal ever. I cannot wait to marry this amazing man!
