favors...I'm talkin' ORIGINAL!!!!!

I need something original for a favor. I don't want the following: dried flowers, vases, candles...what is a nice favor that might be practical in that people can actually USE what they are getting? Please let me know all ideas entertained.

I haven't heard of any of those bands, but I just booked a band called Rainbow, and they play everything. They're very reasonably priced, nowhere near $4,000! They're also very easy to deal with. Let me know if you want their number. Good luck!

Liz - I don't know if this is original for you but we used personalized candy bars. They had our names, picture and cute "nutritional" info on the back. People ate them and either kept the wrappers or threw them out. But no one has to dust them! If you're interested let me know and I'll give you the website.

How about picture frames? Everyone can always use a picture frame. I bought these really nice 5x7 frames, they were on sale for like $8 each... I only had 60 guests, so i just bought about 30 frames (one for each couple, etc). so it was reasonably priced. i had my cousin wrap them up really nicely with white wrapping paper, etc., and a ribbon with our names and the date of the wedding. i think it was really nice.

favors...I'm talkin' ORIGINAL!!!!!

Hi Liz:

I made something a little original. I took a music saying, printed them, or you can hand write them on to paper. Mine was "Life put's the Music in Laughter, The Beauty in Song". My fiance is a musician so it's related in some way. Anyway, I go to Michael's crafts and pick up 10 - 12 frames and mattings 5 x 7 and place the saying in the matting and then frame it. Frames are 2 for 5.00 and mattings are on sale a lot, 2.99 each. Handwriting on paper is free. Just need paper and nice pen. You could do a saying that relates to the two of you or here are some: "Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much" or "Grow old with me, the best is yet to be". Just some examples. People loved them at my sister's wedding and people hung them up in their homes. GOod Luck

When are you getting married and do you have a theme/color scheme for your wedding? This could help for ideas.

favors...I'm talkin' ORIGINAL!!!!!

Hi Liz,

I hate to say it, but there are just no original favors anymore. I hate favors, and have more glass picture frames than I care to mention. My fiancee and I are planning a May wedding with a daisy theme. We were hoping to have a small aluminum bucket (This ties in with our centerpieces which are big aluminum ice buckets) with all the fixins to grow your own daisy plant. We're hoping we can get the little planters wholesale from our florist and that this idea won't run too much money). We figure if you get an assembly line going (this is what bridesmaids are for) that the put-together time will be fast.

Just an idea. My mom says people who go to a wedding like to take something home. I'm thinking more useful items are better.

Cute and cheap idea

I'm not sure if I heard this here or not, but I think we are going to wrap Hershey's hugs and kisses in tulle and we will either write on or have a ribbon printed with, "Hugs and Kisses from Brenda and Shawn" This is a really inexpensive favor, and practical too. I like the candy bar idea, but a lot of people are doing it now, and I also wanted something original. I think people will think this is cute. If you don't like the tulle, you can always wrap the chocolates in something else or put them in little boxes.

Cute and cheap idea

Another cute on is to put the kisses in a plastic spoon and then wrap them in tulle with a tag that say's "A spoon full of kisses from the new Mr. & Mrs."

Cute and cheap idea

My girlfriend's favors were 2 plain taper candles (can be purchased in bulk from Paramount in Sayville). She also wrapped a couple of Hershey's Hug's and Kisses in some tulle and wrapped that around the candles with a ribbon that read "Hugs and Kisses from the New Mr. and Mrs. The 2 candles were wrapped in a cello bag. The tulle was tied to the outside of the cello bag. I think she might have had personalized ribbon around the top of the cello bag (Mr. & Mrs. John Smith December 11, 1999) Good luck with your favors!

Favors..favors

Favors...favors..favors...I agree 100% that the little gifts should be something useful but most of all thoughtful. I went to a few weddings this year and I received some great gifts. One was..Suncatchers!!! Sounds silly but guess what girls? It is hanging in my window! And everytime I look at it I think of my dear friends that got married. The next wedding, were little terracotta pots with a "starter plant" in them. Another great idea! I have the plant in my bathroom right under my suncatcher. Well...just wanted to share!
