Hey everyone!

I'm off to start looking at florists and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what is a reasonable price range for flowers should be. I have no clue what a good price range is. I have a HUGE wedding party (10 girls & ushers) & I don't know what to expect. I'm going to need bouquets, centerpieces & flowers for the Church. Any help would be great!!

Hi, Monika!

I'm using one of the florist my reception hall suggested. I don't have the entire list itemized, but here is what I'm paying:

$45 per bridesmaids bouquet; $6 per boutineer; $18 per mother's corsage; $20 per flowergirl basket; $60 per centerpiece (2 doz roses)

Hi Ladies:

SHOP AROUND ON THE FLOWERS! I'm getting married in May 2000 and I wanted Blue Hydrangea, which is not in season. I have a florist locally, whom of which I never bought from, who is making my bridesmaids boquets with Blue Hydrangea, Ivy, etc. for $25.00 a bouquet. That's Reasonable and he is shipping hydrangea in from Holland for it. I went on line to price out bunched fresh flowers. Hydrangea is shipped 30 flowers for 45.00 so there is a huge mark-up on some florists. SHOP AROUND

But I"m opting to take his last name b/c I like the idea of having a "family name"....even if we never have children - it represents our family/our unit.

Kate,

I am a big lover of hydrangea(especially blue). In May it is not locally in season and you can get it from Holland, however, it does not have more than a few hours of life(looking good) without water. It is very fragile and weak and recquires alot of preparation when used off season. They need alot of water, or else, it turns to mush. You may want to inform the florist that you would like extra measures to be taken to insure the freshness of the bouquets. Keeping moist paper towels over the bouquets is one way, a hand-tied style bouquet kept in a vase of water until the moment before pictures(and also in the trunk of the limo)is another way to insure they make it through all the important pictures.

I hope I am not scaring you away from hydrangea, it is available almost year-round now, and they do look great in bouquets.The price is usually more than your average flowers because of the care that is involved. Good Luck!!

How about daisies? any special care involved with them? I'm thinking all daisies for bouquets and centerpieces...what's their "looking-good" time without water (for boutenniers and bouquets).

We're considering donating the money we would have spent on favors to 2 charities that have helped our families. We'd place a card at each place setting "In lieu of favors, a donation was made to......".

It will serve as a double purpose for us - resolves the favor issue in a meaningful way and allows us to acknowledge the memory of my late mother and Paul's late brother.

Jenn,

Daisy mums are very hardy(healthy) year round and do just fine out of water for the day, if, they have been drinking water undisturbed for at least 24 hours. I give you this info just in case you are doing the flowers yourself. If you are getting married in late May-June, Marguerite Daisies are in Season. This is the traditional daisy, with fern like greens and only 12"-18" in height. You see these sold at farm stands (in season) in big bunches of 25 stems. They smell really bad(it dissipates) but they are very petite and cute.

On "A Wedding Story" yesterday(1/3/00) they had a wedding party making their own nosegays of all daisies tied with ribbon. It looked great! Good Luck!
